I think they’re getting the hang of this new Expanded Universe.
We’re several years into the new canon now, but it’s been curious to watch how the books (and comics) have changed from our first tentative steps with A New Dawn. It might be no less a balancing act, but it feels like everything is both settling into a rhythm and not afraid to try something new.
Last Shot is the latest example of how the novels are able to both enhance the films (in this case, Solo, mostly) and stand on their own as complete stories.
Today’s “rumor” is basically the most probable guesswork for the next Celebration: Fall 2019 in Anaheim. It comes to us via Star Wars News Net, a site I generally don’t trust all that much. But this one does make sense for some key reasons:
1. Episode IX is coming out in December, and for those of us old enough to remember, the original three Celebrations – tied to The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith – all took place about a month out from their respective movies. Remember, Celebration Anaheim in 2015 was planned and announced before The Force Awakens moved from May to December, so this allows for a bit of reorientation.
2. The Galaxy’s Edge expansion in Disneyland is expected to open in Spring 2019.
3. It’s Anaheim’s ‘turn’, and quite frankly I’d be shocked if it wasn’t there, as I expect no domestic Celebrations will ever happen less than 20 minutes drive from a Disney Park ever again.
So yes, it’s completely possible that this will turn out to be true. (But don’t fear to be skeptical, either.) Now, whether anyone will be able to get Fastpasses…
Empire magazine has two new Solo images today – one of Han during the Vandor heist, and a second of Dryden Vos in his sunny lair. There’s some showpiece-looking Mandalorian armor in the background, because of course there is.
It’s a noteworthy week for releases, with the year’s first all-new novel and a comic that takes us – very briefly – into shouting distance of The Last Jedi.
Solo’s Donald Glover will host Saturday Night Live on May 5, the show announced last night. He’ll also be, as alter ego Childish Gambino, the musical guest.
Meanwhile, a skit that was cut for time last night about The Shape of Water’s Fish Man featured a cameo from Adam Driver.
ThinkGeek has their first wave of Solo product out, and there’s no question about what the highlight is: The Lando cape. The pattern in the lining is inspired by Lando’s scarf.
