TV news: Doctor Who gets a logo makeover and Dollhouse is in trouble. Again.

Tardis, or birthday candle? YOU DECIDE.The Doctor gets spiffed up for new season. As if Flopsy McEmohair wasn’t enough of a change, the BBC has unveiled a new logo/branding for Doctor Who. It’s a tad sophomore-year design project, but I kinda dig it.

Second verse, same as the first. Dollhouse is in trouble! How novel! The campaign is thataway.

Ride into Westeros. Horse-riding extras are needed in Northern Ireland for HBO’s A Game of Thrones later this month.

Gate Geek: SGU Starts Strong

Stargate Universe had a lot of folks intrigued, apparently.  They beat Dollhouse (poor Dollhouse) with 2.3 million viewers in the US.  In Canada, they set a record for the highest episode ever on Space.  And its UK premiere last night was the highest rated show in its timeslot for the night.

Now they just have to keep this going.  (I was pleased, but reactions around the web do include a fair percentage of folks who weren’t.)

Yesterday was SyFy Press Day in Vancouver.  Expect all sorts of articles to be cropping up in the next few days and weeks about Stargate and the other SyFy shows (Sanctuary, Caprica).

The Clone Wars review: ‘Holocron Heist’ & ‘Cargo of Doom’

Hey kids! It's CAD BANE!

Welcome back to another exciting season of The Cad Bane Show!  The self-appointed breakout character is the clear focus of the Season 2 opener, and if Cartoon Network’s promos are any indication, we haven’t seen the last of him.  So I hope you like the blue dude with the rude ‘tude, since it looks like he’s the main attraction for the next year or so. In the news: Fisher takes ‘Drinking’ to New York, Dirty-minded neighbors peg Prowse film as porn

Buns over Broadway. Carrie Fisher’s one-woman show ‘Wishful Drinking’ opened on Broadway this weekend, and the reviews are in. Not too shabby! Let’s not forget the woman herself is still blogging away… And not pulling any punches, either.

Why is the goofy news always from the U.K.? Two stories involving David Prowse… In the first, his car breaks down. Okay, maybe not so wacky, except the part where it used to belong to Kenny Baker, thus allowing all the ability to write a silly headline. In the second, a house where the actor was filming a drama was raided by police after neighbors reported the film crew as being there to shot a porn flick.

Behind the CGI. The New York Daily News has a nice piece profiling the Clone Wars voice talent.

In Concert. Naturally the tour is getting some (digital) ink; L.A. Times’ Hero Complex talked to several folks, including host Anthony Daniels; Pheonix New Times’ Benjamin Leatherman was not particularly impressed, though he did give the masses a say. (Ahh, Twitter. Removing the journalist’s need to actually talk to people for comment since 2006.) As for the places where it’s yet to come, Chicago Now’s Geek to Me and The Ottawa Citizen have taken notice.

Changes afoot for the Fate of the Jedi paperbacks

UPDATE 11/11: Sue Rostoni says that Del Rey is dropping the plan to print the Fate of the Jedi paperbacks as premiums. They will be the regular mass market.

Someone asked a question about the higher price ($9.99) listed for the first Fate of the Jedi paperback reprint over at StarWars.com, and today we get an answer from Sue Rostoni:

They’re making the books a little larger and calling them “premium” paperbacks — they’re 3/4″ taller and a touch wider. Seems to be the trend in paperbacks now. I don’t know yet whether this change is for all our paperbacks, or just the FotJ ones…

The format has been around for a while, but I can’t recall seeing it on any SF/F before…

UPDATE: See the comments for pictures of a premium format paperback with a trade and mass market.
