Everyone’s black and blue in tonight’s Clone Wars

The Clone Wars: Jedi Crash

What can you expect from tonight’s ‘Jedi Crash?’ Well, it co-stars famed comic export Aayla Secura. (She’s… French?) And some injury bonding for Anakin and Ahsoka. Check out the latest webcomic, ‘Headgames,’ for a quick preview.

Gate Geek – More Stargate Hunks

Continuing on with the Stargate 90210 theme, the new additions to the Stargate Universe cast (joining Robert Carlyle) are certainly not totally lacking the looks department.  (I can totally get behind a little eye candy, if the stories are also good.)

  • Justin Louis – Will be Colonel Everett Young.  And he’s actually ::gasp:: married!  (In a Stargate show?!  No one gets married and lives.)
  • David Blue – Who I loved, loved, loved in Ugly Betty, will play Eli Wallace.  He’s a total slacker who is your basic genius.  (I wonder if the threat of citrus works on him?)
  • Jamil Walker Smith – Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, “a Marine with a temper you don’t want to mess with.”  The edgy, mysterious one.  TV Guide has a picture.
  • Brian J. Smith – Lt Matthew Scott; the inexperienced one who is thrust into leadership before his time.

Now, if MGM and SciFi would just learn that they’re annoying the established fans with this whole “edgier and younger in tone” crap, they might bring along more old fans to the new show.

The fandom minute: Thracken misses io9’s bus, My Little Ponies, Flickr, Designer editions

Han Solo and his identical cousin, Thracken Sal-Solo (You can lose your mind!) You missed one. io9 lists the most ridiculous evil twins in the multiverse, tragically ignoring Star Wars’ Thrackan Sal-Solo. Okay, sure, so maybe a mention for a C-list Expanded Universe character is too much to expect, but he’s the identical cousin of Han Solo! But evil! With a mustache! He led an organization called the Human League! What’s not to mock?

Gate Geek – Author John Scalzi Creative Consultant for Universe

Joe Mallozzi has announced that author John Scalzi (Old Man’s War, The Android’s Dream) will now be a creative consultant to the new Stargate Universe series.  (Plus, the announcement includes a really delicious-looking trip to Vancouver restaurant Fuel… except for that foie gras… yuck.)

If you have read his books (and if you haven’t, why not?), this certainly hints at an interesting direction for the show.

Comic old, comics new: Sneak peek at new KOTOR, taking in all of Vector

Editor Dave Marshall talks a wee bit about Knights Of The Old Republic #37, plus a nine page preview. (Alas, the issue didn’t come out yesterday – at least not if you believe Diamond.)

Meanwhile, CBR has John Jackson Miller, John Ostrander, Jan Duursema and Randy Stradley to talk about Vector now that it’s done – and/or the first trade is imminent, depending on your point of view. But the piece does contain spoilers.

Ricardo Montalban off to the next great journey

The man who brought us Khan lives no more.  Ricardo Montalban passed away yesterday morning at the age of 88.

CJ honors the passing of a great contributor to the geek world, from his roles as Star Trek’s Khan, to movies including Naked Gun and Spy Kids, and of course Fantasy Island.  There are also many CJ’ers who are fans of the series Kim Possible which he contributed to recently.

Raise a glass of Romulan ale and toast farewell with us!

TFN thread of the indeterminate time period: The key phrase here is ‘historical perspective’

After nearly two decades, three actual movies, a TV show/movie, and (approximately) a thousand other books, of course Heir to the Empire and pals have some continuity issues. Sorry, that’s just how we play it in the GFFA. Suck it up, fanboy.

But we can agree on one thing: The covers have always been pretty bad. Of course, some of the EU’s worst have nice Drew Struzan covers, thus proving the old adage…

Gate Geek – Choose Your Own Adventure

Which will you choose?

  • There’s a Fan’s Choice poll to choose the favorite Atlantis episodes to go onto a BluRay Fan Favorites compilation. (via)
  • There’s a video of all the handsome guys at the wrap party held after the last episode was done.  (Which, by the way, scored great ratings.)
  • Or if you prefer to go the SG1 route, there’s a very philosophical interview with Ben Browder about Stargate, Farscape and his general outlook on life.
