Drive-by movie news: Is it the end for Narnia? Thundercats ho! NPH’s Indy; Twilight
Disney gives Narnia the boot. Well, it’s official – Disney has decided not to adapt the third Narnia book, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, for “budgetary and logistical reasons.” (Prince Caspian wasn’t exactly a flop, but it didn’t take in nearly as much as Lion.) That’s not to say all is lost – Walden Media is shopping around for a new partner.
Really do hope that Dawn Treader gets made – I can take or leave the rest of the series, but it’s my favorite. In the meantime, you can find the old BBC productions pretty cheap on DVD. The production values may not be as good, but I thought they were pretty neat as a kid!
- Wishful thinking. This fanmade Thundercats movie trailer, starring Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Vin Diesel and Chiana from Farscape swept the internet on Monday. It mostly makes me hope for an end to this 80’s cartoon movie trend…
- Fun stuff. The How I Met Your Mother teamed up for Entertainment Weekly for a Best of 2008 photoshot, including Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Neil Patrick Harris makes a better Indy than you might think!
- Let’s not forget about Twilight. The Golden Compass’ Chris Weitz will direct New Moon; Bitch on the books; Robert Pattinson cuts his hair! Oh noes!
- The rest of the garbage. Keanu Reeves wants to star in Cowboy Bebop movie; Frank Miller aims to whore up Buck Rodgers; Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby?
Vanity Fair discovers the Holiday Special
First The Force Unleashed, now The Holiday Special? How many fans does Vanity Fair have over there? (It is by the same writer, contributing editor Frank DiGiacomo. He even mentioned the Wookieepedia back in May.) That said, the article is a pretty interesting look at the special’s development and production.
SciFi assesses genre show survival
Now that the actors have decided to postpone their strike vote, we can get back to worrying and fretting about the fates of our favorite genre shows.
SciFi is jumping on the prediction wagon by rating the chances of show survival for: Chuck, Heroes, Eleventh Hour, Life on Mars, Sarah Connor and Knight Rider.
Personally, I’m voting for Chuck and all his unabashedly geeky enthusiasm
Not quite the Coruscant Opera….
So apparently the Dark Room Theater is not quite as big as the Coruscant Opera, but they have a lot of heart and a lot of love for Star Wars.
Bonnie has an interview with the show’s creator, plus a link for you to get your own seats to this “really, really new hope.”
The costumes look hilarious. And it could be a good way to survive the holidays with your family. Only a few days left!
Out this week: KOTOR, Sith Omnibus
No books, but comic fans be on the lookout Wednesday for Knights of the Old Republic #36 and the Rise of the Sith omnibus.
…Assuming your comic shop is open, anyway. But Diamond says they’re shipping the 24th.
Awarding the Waru: The wackiest Expanded Universe happening of 2008
I originally meant to do a big year-end poll on the year’s EU offerings, but time flies, so we’re just going to have to settle for this: The The Crystal Star Memorial Award for Expanded Universe wackiness, aka the Waru. This award is given to the one Expanded Universe event (both in-universe and without count) that made you go ‘What?’ The one event that most shocked, confused, or even amused you in a deeply sarcastic way. Think hard. Award ironically. Continue reading “Awarding the Waru: The wackiest Expanded Universe happening of 2008”
