Plenty of McQuarrie exclusives in Japan
The official site updates (!!) with Ralph McQuarrie Exclusives at Celebration Japan: Two prints, a Lawrence Noble painting based on McQuarrie’s original poster concept, and a second go at Art of Ralph McQuarrie from Dreams & Visions Press.
In other Celebration Japan art news, Rebelscum has previews of Tsuneo Sanda’s prints.
Darth Vader and pal terrorize Japanese convenience store in the name of Celebration
A convenience store in Japan got a visit from a few costumed menacers in preparation for Celebration Japan. Sending out 501sters to random public places seems like a pretty neat promotional idea to me… Who doesn’t love a stormtrooper in Walmart?
Also: Slides!
A flurry of merchandise news: Hasbro, Nintendo
- Hasbro: Rebelscum has the new Millennium Falcon press release and a couple of high-res photos.
- The Clone Wars: Box art for The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels (via)
- More Nintendo: Light Up Lightsaber Stylus Sets for the DS. It’s not quite a Wiisaber, but you take what you can get.
- Expanded Universe: The Rebelscum boards are polling for interest in EU figures. You do have to have (or register) an account.
New Allston book spotted at Amazon
Amazon.ca has a listing for Fate of the Jedi 1, a new Star Wars hardcover from Aaron Allston. ‘Fate of the Jedi’ sounds like a (post-ROTS?) series name to me… Amazon gives the street date as March 24, 2009, making this our first contender for the big spring release. As always, we’re a bit wary of Amazon ‘reveals,’ but it’s certainly a possibility. (via)
Aaron will be at Comic-Con… Maybe we’ll get an announcement there?
StarWars.com redesigns, streamlines
They were redesigning. Sneaky, sneaky… I had a few issues with the site last night, viewing it on a computer with an older version of Flash (hey, I’d upgrade if I could) but those are all pretty much gone now. It’s a vast improvement over the random Flash-and-planets front that they’ve been sporting since C4, and a lot more dynamic. Several sections are also sporting the new design, including news posts and Databank. (I do miss having a dedicated news page, but there’s always the archives.)
And from this end, at least, it seems the launch went fairly smoothly. (We had some ‘page not found’ errors last night, but they seem to have cleared up.)
(Mostly) complete screenshot is under the cut for posterity. Continue reading “StarWars.com redesigns, streamlines”
And so it begins… Mimobot Series 3
NotCot reveals the first of the new Mimobots… Palpatine! Creepy, huh?
Video: George helps get out the vote
George Lucas is among the celebrities in this new PSA from Vote For It ’08:

The overarching purpose of the joint initiative is to serve as a call-to-action to America’s youth vote, emphasizing the importance of connectivity to the growing national political spirit and the necessity of empowering one’s self thru the exercise of the most basic responsibility…that is the right to vote.
Grand Army of the Legopublic
A group of British Lego employees assembled an army of 35,310 Lego Star Wars Clone Troopers mini-figs to raise awareness (and cash) for The National Autistic Society.
Support a Canadian charity on Canada Day
A Happy Canada Day to all our Canadian members and friends. There’s something you can do in celebration.
We’ve told you previously about Michael Shank‘s on-going auction to support the Canadian National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Looking over the list today, there are some cool items from Firefly (Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk) and SuperNatural (Jared Padelecki, Jenson Ackles) that aren’t getting much action. This might be your chance to pick up some nice items from those fandoms and still support a good cause.
