CIV: The one we’ve been waiting for

Obi-Wan wonders if he left the iron on

The biggest thing to come out of this Celebration was, of course, the much-anticipated and yet totally unexpected (well, unannounced) Clone Wars footage. As disappointed as I was to first hear that the animated series would be yet another dose of the Clone Wars, I must admit it looks pretty cool. There’s a report from the C4 panel at the StarWars.com Celebration blog. Alas, due to my schedule I never made the actual panels, although I did manage to catch the footage itself on screen, and it’s fantastic in high-def. I hope everyone who could caught it that way.

The fan-produced “3-D animated stills” mentioned is probably the ‘Tales from the New Republic’ project. While impressive for a fan production (and more in line with what I hoped for the animated series, sigh) the image quality suffers in comparison to the CW footage. Still, it’s a great idea and a lot of work, and I hope they can pull it off!

One of these things is not like the others...

Even if… umm… no comment.

Filk Friday

After a short break for some turkey and gravy, Filk Friday is back and ready for the holiday season! To kick off the festivities, these week’s featured filk is actually a parody of a satire (filking a filk?). While not techically a filk itself, the song this filk is based on is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever: The Night Santa Went Crazy by reknown filk and satire artist, “Weird” Al Yankovic. While the filk is not technically a Christmas song, Shack’s The Night Mara Went Crazy surely captures the manic insanity of the original song.

Filk Friday

This week’s featured filk has been coined by some critics (namely, the author) as the “greatest filk ever.” While I am not prone to such hyperbole, this is admittedly one of the most entertaining filks I’ve ever seen performed. Written by PG, the filk Lady Mara Jade combines two Star Ladies favorites: Moulin Rouge and Luke/Mara. Enjoy!

Random outbursts of Allegiance news…

A summary of Timothy Zahn’s Allegiance was found by a TFN user on Amazon U.K. I wouldn’t put too much faith in it, as there are two listings for the book and the summary seems a rather rough rewording of the first look at the novel. And they have the movie placement wrong. But, for posterity:

A “Star Wars” novel set between the events of “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”, it features a younger Han, Leia, and Luke, as well as Mara Jade. Mara Jade, the Emperor’s Hand, is looking into the illicit financial affairs of a planetary governor, hoping to find evidence that he might be funding the Rebellion. Luke, Han, and Chewbacca are sent on a mission to help some rebel supporters. Leia is busy being a diplomat, trying to drum up support for the Rebel Alliance. And a band of 5 stormtroopers, on the run after refusing a direct order, finds itself in the strange position of doing good deeds…and perhaps even aiding the Rebellion. The paths of all of them will crisscross back and forth as they come closer and closer to meeting up with one another…but never quite managing to.

However, we do have something from an official source: Sue Rostoni posted an excerpt from Allegiance on the starwars.com boards today. Text beneath the cut, nothing all that spoilery, IMO.
