Bask in the horror of Holiday Special week

The fact that there is anything that can be qualified as Holiday Special collectibles is chilling at best. But in a month that has brought us the Darth Vader toaster, it’s impossible to be surprised – except perhaps by the lack of a Ackmena Cantina playset.

Those desiring words over pictures can head over to interviews with the special’s scriptwriter and directors.

The Phantom Menace teaser and Holiday Special both celebrate anniversaries today

Yes, there’s the Star Wars Holiday Special‘s 30th, but more importantly, it was November 17th, 1998 that The Phantom Menace trailer debuted, ushering us into a new era for the movies and fandom. The Stooge shares his story of seeing it… What’s yours?

I think I just loaded it up on my computer (Dialup plus an overloaded early StarWars.com… Took forever) because even then I couldn’t muster enough interest in the prequels to see Meet Joe Black or that Adam Sandler flick. The more things change…

In the news: Harvey Korman, blu-ray, Star Tours

Harvey Korman as Chef Gormaanda in the Holiday Special

Also this week…

A few things we missed while pursuing (and avoiding!) Harry Potter.

From the Blogside

Mike of the blog Mmmm has, for the past month or so, posting about Star Wars and reviewing the saga. Going chronologically, he rolls through The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Clone Wars, Revenge of the Sith, A New Hope, the Holiday Special, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

I’ll give the guy credit – he takes a mostly even-handed approach to the saga (even the Holiday Special – we all know it’s exactly that wretched, though he pans the Ewoks more than I think is necessary.) But, overall – a good read.
