Her Universe and Ashley Eckstein today announced Year of the Fangirl, a new campaign to highlight geek girls. Ashley’s team – Tricia Barr, Erin Kelahan, Amy Ratcliffe, Victoria ‘Scruffy Rebel’ Schmidt and Lillian Skye – will be highlighting ladies as their “fangirls of the day.” You can fill out the form yourself or even nominate a friend (or twenty.)
Star Wars Books will be hosting an Ashley Eckstein chat Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. She’ll answer fan questions on Her Universe, The Clone Wars and, obviously, the books.
In a new interview with About.com, Ashley Eckstein says that Her Universe hopes to expand beyond t-shirts. She namechecks “dresses, leggings, skirts, cardigans.” They already have one dress – the TARDIS, which remains a Hot Topic exclusive – but the idea of cardigans is getting a lot of love online.
And let’s not forget the Rogue Squadron sketch, which could (maybe) become a dress…
For the more immediate future, Ashley mentions Her Universe branded items:
I am very excited because we are currently designing my first Her Universe branded collection. Up until this point we’ve only focused on licensed designs, but girls have been asking for Her Universe branded items as well. These designs will be very graphic and inspirational. We tell girls to “Dream Your World. Be Your World. Flaunt Your World.” and I want our branded designs to represent that whimsy, inspiration and power.
What would you like to see Her Universe tackle beyond the types of tops, pajamas, jewelry and tote bags that they’ve already produced?
Her Universe is offering three variations on the quote theme for Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who fans.
Ashley Eckstein posted this photo today of “a new design” that Her Universe is working on.
It seems there’s been quite an outcry for Rogue Squadron items lately… But bear in mind this is only a sketch, so it’s hard to say when, or even if, it ever becomes available.
The addition of ribbing also hints this could be an all-new style. (Maybe a dress?) Her Universe’s tanks currently cost $25, while their only dress (so far) is $28.50.
Santa Maul has returned – briefly – to remind you that the Her Universe Cyber Monday merchandise is now available for purchase, even though none of it features his handsome visage.
Santa Maul is sure there are other deals to be had in the vast internet – something about blueprints and other t-shirts – but he has the ennui.
Her Universe has revealed their Cyber Monday exclusives! Above, a set of Darth Vader pajamas featuring artwork from Her Universe favorite Katie Cook. “Everyone knows I love creating designs for Her Universe,” Cook said. “I jumped at the chance to combine two of my favorite things: Star Wars and pajamas.” Tops and bottoms will be sold separately – the tops aren’t on the site yet, but the bottoms go up to 3X.
The Star Wars shirt with Japanese symbols is a new Misses cut that is “is flattering to the female figure” – it’s the same cut as the plus-size Mara shirts from Celebration, and is available in sizes up to 2X. The BSG crew neck sweatshirt might also appeal to those looking for a looser cut – it’s available in sizes up to XL. There are also new Star Trek and two new Doctor Who tees!
Her Universe is producing their first Star Trek jewelery for the holiday – these earrings feature the Vulcan hand sign in the communicator seal. And this year’s holiday pin features Chewbacca and comes in a case signed by Ashley Eckstein. A thousand have been produced and will be going out free with every order while supplies last.
Also free this year? U.S. Ground shipping! All the new Cyber Monday products will go on sale November 26.
With New York Comic Con upon us, it’s of course rather apt that Ashley Exckstein and Her Universe are profiled in the New York Times. Newswise, we learn the company “is expected to reach $1 million in sales this year and turn its first profit.”
Her Universe doesn’t have a booth at NYCC this year, but Ashley will be livestreaming with MTV Geek.
Her Universe is revealing their new products for Halloween! A brand-new Spock hoodie, this year’s Halloween tote by Katie Cook (only available for a limited time) and a Hot Topic exclusive Tardis dress.
These are all brand new editions to their existing collection of “everyday cosplay” – the Leia hoodie, Asoka tunic (now in adult sizes,) and the Uhura tee.
The Clone Wars actress and Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein was a guest on Tosche Station Radio last night, where she answered fan questions and revealed a few upcoming products, including a new Halloween bag from Katie Cook (pictured, last year’s,) more Star Wars pajamas, a Spock costume top, and extended sizes for the Ahsoka Tano costume top. They’ll also be coming out with a Tardis dress exclusively for Hot Topic.
