Billy Dee Williams “would absolutely love” to return as Lando, has not been contacted by Lucasfilm

LandoOn Facebook, Billy Dee Williams posts about the Star Wars sequels and asks fans to get the word out about their desire to see Lando again.

Everyone is still asking about the new Star Wars movie…. the best way to ensure that Billy Dee Williams will be in the new film is to FB, TWITTER, BLOG and tell Disney and Lucasfilm that you want to see LANDO again! Hopefully JJ will read the wishes and write in LANDO! UNTIL then…. here is all that is known: “I am in the dark with the actual plans that Disney and Lucasfilm have for the future of the “Star Wars” universe. I have heard the same rumors that the fans heard, that a new trilogy is being made, that spin-offs may be made, that we all [Mark, Carrie, Harrison and myself] are going to be reprising our roles in these projects. At this point in time, nothing has been confirmed about my participation and I have signed no contracts. I assure you that I would absolutely love to reprise my role of Lando Calrissian. He’s a character that I took great pride in creating on screen and have continued to be a part of when providing his voice for video games, the new “Star Wars Detours” cartoon and for various episodes of “Robot Chicken”, among other projects. It’s a lot of fun to keep Lando alive and I am eager to do it again, on film, when I get the call. I thank all the fans out there for their continued support and I hope to get the call from Disney and Lucasfilm real soon, until then, may the force be with us all!”

He’s said that he’d like to come back before, but leaves little doubt as to his situation with Lucasfilm at present. Do you want to see Lando return – if only as a cameo?

This begging to be in Episode VII is kinda sad. I think BDW (and other folks) should remember that there’s a trilogy coming, not just one more movie. I’d much prefer to see Lando pop up in, say, Episode VIII… that’d be a real crowd-pleaser, and it would free Episode VII from being the Star Wars 40th Anniversary Reunion Special.

Without knowing the social organization of the galaxy in Episode VII, it is hard to conceptualize bringing these characters back. If Calrissian was chancellor of the republic, that would be awesome. But at the same time, those kinds of ideas presume a certain society exists during that time.

War is usually fought by young people. Having too many old people in the film could make the whole universe feel somewhat safe, overly civilized, and somewhat domesticated.

I’m with Dunc, Hamill is required and everyone else is optional. I would really only want to see Luke with a new cast, the Droids, and Chewie.

If Han and Leia got married and settled down, I would assume Chewie would move in with his buddy, Luke.

I’m hoping if we get everyone back, it makes sense. I’m sure it will. We pretty much have a dream team working on this. If we can’t have Lucas doing it all, I like what were they have taken it, in terms of who’s hired.

I would love to see Billy Dee Williams as Lando again. However, he is nearly 80s years old. There’s a lot of risks in that.

Also, please don’t kill me, but I always thought Star Trek looked really embarrassing with all those old people everywhere. Doesn’t anyone retire?

Harry Potter made it clear that everyone’s social circle stays exactly as it was fixed decades earlier. ;)

Saw SW in the theaters when I was 7, and have been hooked ever since. So I am probably in the minority, but as much as I love the original actors and characters, I would much rather see new actors take over the roles, so that an episode VII, could fit closer into the timeline. Bringing back the original actors, you will have to skip 30 years ahead of ROTJ in order for it to make sense with current age of actors, and that just seems like a lot missed story telling potential. And I agree with above, it will look more like the SW reunion episode if you bring all back. Also, if you bring in new younger actors, you can bring in a young Mara!!

I can’t see recasting them, and in fact I kind of hate the ‘they’re old’ argument. They’re older, so let their characters be older. Star Wars is generational: Let them be the Yodas and Obi-Wans, and let another generation take the front seat. I’d rather see the original actors and a 60-year-old Mara than recast anyone. It was necessary in the prequels – but it’s not here.

I would like to see Lando again. I find him hilarious. Though I don’t see him in as big a role as the Big Three.

Lando was a fun character, but I guess I’m trusting the writer (famous last words, I know) to decide where to take the story. If he works in it, great. If not, I don’t think he should be shoe-horned in…

I see the point that they’re old, let them be older. At the same time, how many movies need 4 mentors? I hope Luke is the Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon and Han and Leia are Yoda/Mace screen time equivalents.

But who am I kidding, I just want more Star Wars. I don’t care what form I get it in as long as it is done with the best of intentions and everyone involved tries their best.

Yes, that would be nice for a change. ;-)

As for Lando: I’m with Dunc. All I want is Luke. The rest can easily get the Connery Indy 4 treatment for all I care.

I am fine with just Luke returning. However, if Han and Leia are back too, I think it would be nice to have Lando, even just for a brief cameo, in any of the films. I dunno. Seems to leave a weird taste in my mouth if they have all three of Luke, Han, and Leia, and nary a sign of Lando.
