After a brief lull in new trailers, the past few weeks have given us quite a variety. First up, released while we were in JadeCon mode, is our first look at The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Below the cut, the first look at 300: Rise of an Empire, a teaser from Disney’s Frozen and second trailers for Elysium and Riddick, plus… A LEGO movie?
Cersei! Err, it’s just 300: Rise of an Empire, for all your endless action scene needs.
If you’re looking for a hint at the plot of Frozen, this… Isn’t it.
This Elysium gives more of a hint at the plot…
…while this Riddick trailer doesn’t really deviate all that much from the first, but hey, it’s Vin Diesel and we have an obligation.
Yeah, there’s a LEGO movie. Okay.
Didn’t realize the new 300 film wasn’t coming out until next year. Looks good. Lego movie looks fun as well.
Wish I could say I was excited about the new Riddick, but that would be a stretch. Still, I imagine I’ll see it.
Desolation of Smaug trailer has me aching for December.
A better title would have been: “300: The Return of the Six Pack”
300 looks like the most pointless film ever made. “After the real fight, some extra boat fights!!!!”
And I’m sorry, that trailer makes the second Hobbit film look really stupid. I’m hoping its more than just Jackson invented characters doing cool action moves. Blech.
The Lego movie looks weird. Like, “A Town Called Panic” weird, which could actually be a good thing. It was the right idea to actually animate it with Legos rather than just make another Lego CG film. We’ve got plenty of those floating around.
>>300 looks like the most pointless film ever made. “After the real fight, some extra boat fights!!!!”
Agreed, though 300 was always more style than substance anyway. The question is if one of the new leads can add the surprising sense of maturity Mr. Butler lent to the first, otherwise fairly juvenile film.
>>that trailer makes the second Hobbit film look really stupid.
To be honest: The first one wasn’t that great either. It just went on and on for no apparent reason, and judging from the trailer, the second one will do exactly the same (with a couple of unnecessary Two Towers type Jackson additions on top). So far, the Hobbit adaptation seems to fall into the prequel trilogy trap: Telling a story nobody needs in a less than convincing fashion.
But since we’re bashing trailers here: Elysium looks like an action version of THX-1138 on speed. Not sure what it’s all about, but I seriously doubt that I’ll pay 10 bucks to watch this apparent train wreck.
