This week brings two comics for Wednesday, August 15: The Solo one-shot Beckett (with two variant covers) and Poe Dameron #30.
New featurette highlights Solo’s scoundrels
Today, upon the occasion of the movie’s release, a new Solo featurette puts the spotlight on the scoundrels – aka most of the cast, really.
I’ll have a discussion post up this evening for anyone who wants to char or give their first impressions in a spoiler-safe place.
Marvel is taking on Beckett this summer
Woody Harrelson’s Tobia Beckett is getting a Marvel one-shot. Solicited for August, Beckett will be written by Gary Duggan (Chewbacca) with art by Will Sliney, Edgar Salazar and Marc Laming. The solicitation promises to reveal more about Enfys Nest and why they are “so dead set on taking him down once and for all.”
→ Solo is tracking for a $130-150M opening weekend – below the previous tracking, but still not a number to scoff at.
→ In addition to the cover story, Variety also has an interview with Donald Glover.
→ Emilia Clarke was on Jimmy Fallon, where she shows that her Shyriiwook is NOT up to spec (there’s also a new clip!), talks about ditching a screening for the royal wedding (on TV), and played charades.
Han meets Lando in new Solo clips
Two new Solo clips from Lucasfilm today, both slightly extended versions of things we’ve already seen in the trailer and commercials: Han and Lando’s first meeting, and Tobia Beckett and Chewbacca playing holochess.

Solo ticket presales doing well; New stills
Solo ticket presales are doing well. Fandango (via Deadline) reports that the film sold more tickets in its first 24 hours than Black Panther. It’s second only to Avengers: Infinity War. Not bad for a movie “no one asked for.”

First Solo details from Entertainment Weekly
Solo gets its first Entertainment Weekly cover, and a handful of new images. Let the feeding frenzy begin! Here’s what we’ve learned:
→ The train-thing is called The Conveyex, and Han (with Chewie!) is indeed trying to steal something from it.
→ We still don’t have a last name for Qi-ra (Emilia Clarke) but she has known Han “longer than anyone.”
→ The droid L3-37 (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) is Lando’s sidekick. Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and Val (Thandie Newton) are “career crooks,” while Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany) is a crime boss.
→ So much for my theory that the clean Millennium Falcon is a flashback scene – There’s a picture of Han on it with Beckett and Chewie.
→ Mimban confirmed, and it is… Muddy.
Coming up: Interviews with Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Clarke, more details about the Falcon.
