Shaun Farrell of Far Sector interviews with Timothy Zahn about Outbound Flight – probably the most detailed interview I’ve seen lately. (via SF Signal)
DRIN & Tim
Interview with Timothy Zahn from the Del Rey Internet Newsletter. Thanks Rosemary!
Thrawn who?
Outbound Flight ETA: Now
By the time most of you read this, Tim Zahn’s Outbound Flight will be available in stores. There are several signings through the country in the next couple of weeks, and looks like there may be some printing problems, although it doesn’t sound like anything fatal.

C3 Wrapup
I’m sorry for not blogging the last few days of C3, but.. well. Busy is an understatement, and I’m saying this with a Volunteer badge. Most of the stuff from the EU panels is already out on the internet – I’d give you links now but I find working with touchpads a mild form of torture. When I return to the world of mice tomorrow I’ll get it together. However…
1. George Lucas. Not much new info, but that wasn’t really the point. He confirmed the whole TV show thing for the fifth or sixth time. (Is anyone still surprised?) but now we get details: Clone Wars will get to be a real boy (in 3D) and the live-action series will come about a year after that and be set between ROTS and ANH.
2. Legacy of Force, aka the post-NJO nine book series we’ve all heard about. There’s a metric ton about this on the internet already and I couldn’t possibly remember everything.
3. Timothy Zahn had a panel today – lots of obvious questions, but we did find out that his classic trilogy novel will be set right after ANH, involve both Luke and Mara but NOT together. NO THRAWN, praise the Emperor.
Saw the new footage again. Natalie Portman sure is getting a lot of mileage out of that one expression.
Is there more? Probably. But my brain has turned to mush.
Outbound Flight
I don’t know how I missed this last night, but starwars.com has posted a first look at Zahn’s next Star Wars novel. It’s the hardcover release for October.
With the foiling of a murderous plot, C’baoth gained the influence he needed to get Outbound Flight underway. In truth, this turn of fortune was carefully engineered by Darth Sidious, the shadowy Sith Lord who wants Outbound Flight to begin, and ultimately, to fail.
The mission is doomed from the start, for lurking within Unknown Space is the Chiss Ascendancy, and the brilliant alien mastermind who will someday become Grand Admiral Thrawn. Not even the presence of Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young Padawan learner, Anakin Skywalker, aboard the gargantuan vessel can avert disaster.
The Great Father Speaks
The creator of Star Wars may be Uncle George. But the real family member at Club Jade is Timothy Zahn, father creator of Mara Jade.
(Club Jade. Mara Jade. Get it?)
Not so, I lie!
Two EU items on starwars.com tonight – an interview with Sean Stewart about his Yoda novel, Dark Rendezvous, and the March comics preview.
Elsewhere on the site, Sue Rostoni gives us this preview of Zahn’s Outbound Flight novel:
The manuscript is in to Del Rey. Shelly is reading it now and will get it to me soon. So far we’re sticking with Star Wars: The Outbound Dark Flight. Or maybe just Dark Flight. Starring Darth Flight and her apprentice, Dark Fight. They try to convert the Jedi on the Outbound Dark Flight by ramming them with their ship, The Dark Fright, and throwing hoods over the Jedi. But just as Darth Flight begins to ram the Dark Flight, night falls (in dark space) and they miss. The Jedi escape under cover of darkness only to be met by Admiral Darkthrawn’a darknu. That’s when the story turns really dark. Stay tuned.
Yes, it’s a joke. Like the book’s gonna be anything less than 80 proof Thrawn.
I see by your implant…
Fan audio isn’t my thing, so many thanks to Jade Crusades for pointing out an episode of Requiem of the Outcast that features an interview with Timothy Zahn and Aaron Allston at StellerCon 2004. The interview starts at 15:20 and just might bring back your post-con depression. They talk about other authors writing their characters, fan reaction, Piggy, killing characters, writing in the original Wookiee, websites as self promotion, hints about Zahn’s Outbound Flight novel and even filking.
