CNN debuted their in-studio ‘hologram’ last night! It ‘beams in’ like Trek, but the overall effect is Star Wars – Anderson Cooper was not the only news person I saw confused on that front last night. Still, technology! Whoo!
We’re not the only fandom with weird…
Star Trek nutcrackers and a Battlestar Galactica PC? Shine on you crazy diamonds. (Thanks, Zee Zee!)
The fandom minute: Fan art, technology, events
- Politics: When in the GFFA…
- Technology: Phonesaber returns… as a The Force Unleashed tie-in? At least it’s free! Also, people are creating Star Wars vehicles in Spore.
- Lists: io9 thoughtfully includes Revenge of the Sith in their list of the best skin-melting scenes from sci-fi. Melting, frying… They’re almost the same thing! (And apparently Raiders of the Lost Ark doesn’t count.)
- Hipsters! Hold onto your Pabst, Star Wars is live (and authorized!) in San Francisco this weekend.
- Funny: You want to read this tale of customer service woe. Just trust me. (Warning: Language.)
Scientists close to creating invisibility cloak!
This would be highly convenient. Why should Harry Potter have all the fun?
Video: I Google You
Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls (she has a solo album coming out in September! Whoo!) sings a song written by Neil Gaiman.
Video: Dancing stormtrooper welcomes new iPhone
Not sure if this is the Tokyo Dance Trooper (he’s sporting the same red armband) or just a Tokyo dance trooper (he’s identified only as ‘Storm Trooper’) but CNN went down to the Tokyo iPhone launch and caught him among the Apple cultists. Now the question is – did he get a white one or a black one? (via)

In the news: Harvey Korman, blu-ray, Star Tours
- People: Emmy-winning comedic actor Harvey Korman, who died on Thursday, is probably best known for his work on The Carol Burnett Show… But he also had a role in The Star Wars Holiday Special as the four-armed chef Gormaanda. Over at StarWars.com, Bonnie Burton pays tribute.
- Technology: Yahoo’s Ben Patterson ponders when Star Wars and Indiana Jones will make it to Blu-ray. He’s way more optimistic than I am, not that I even own a Blu-ray player.
- Disney: An article on ILMer Hayden Landis’ work on Indy IV confirms that a Star Tours makeover is underway. (via)
- Jediism: Time interviews Jedi Church co-founder Daniel Jones.
- Music: Nerdcore in The Guardian.
