Did they manage to Save Carson?

In the ongoing saga of the Save Carson Beckett campaign, a small victory was scored with the sighting of several “protestors” on NBC’s Today Show.

Joe Mallozzi, who issued the challenge to make it onto an entertainment show says that he asked for either Entertainment Tonight or Access Hollywood. But given how he revels in the snark, it’s difficult to say whether or not he’ll cut the fans a break and actually go with the majority position that The Today Show is an entertainment show.

Either way, Paul McGillion sends his appreciation straight from Hollywood’s pilot season via SFX Magazine.

Will you fight?

You just can’t underestimate the power of the ticked off fan.

The fans at SaveCarsonBeckett.com took their fight for the Scottish character straight to the studios where Stargate Atlantis is filmed, complete with a bagpipe lead protest at the gates.

Producer/writer Joseph Mallozzi, who happily prepared for his role as the villain in this piece, turned it into a party by handing out umbrellas (to go with the Scottish-type weather) and baseball hats and setting up protection for the bagpipe band.

ETA: Apparently it was SCB who put together the shelter for the bagpipe band. (Check out the comments section to see who else is reading this site.)

Rachel Luttrell (aka Teyla Emmagan), Jason Momoa (aka Ronon Dex) and David Hewlett (aka Rodney McKay) came out to talk with the fans and admire their stamina and determination.

They must have inspired something because Joseph Mallozzi laid down the gauntlet that he’d write the character back in for two episodes in Season 4 if the group manages to get coverage on a national US entertainment news show.

Anyone with any pull on these shows, please get with the organisers!

Gate News Roundup

Wow. A gal takes a few days off and all this news happens over in the Stargate franchise! For those who merely keep a peripheral interest via this website, here is the news you may have missed.

Jack is back! All the Jack O’Neill fans can rejoice. We get us some RDA for the upcoming straight-to-DVD Stargate movies.

– Those who wish to remain totally pure as to those movie plotlines might wish to avoid the information going around about a location being used.

– And a Stargate boy does good by landing a role on a little show you might know called 24. Michael Shanks has been cast as a recurring character on the show.

Part TV, Part Game, All Internet

GateWorld has an interview with Damian Kindler about his time with the Stargate franchise and his new show. (Fans of Vala will want to check out the first half, although you do get into some spoiler territory.)

What might interest those who aren’t into Stargate is his discussion about the new internet show Sanctuary. (Scroll about half-way down to where you see the Sanctuary logo.) Apparently, it’s not just going to be a show that’s shown on the internet (as nice as that will be not to have to rely on network schedules). There will be an interactive component that’s part gaming, part pseudo-MMO. You can choose to interact or just enjoy the show.

Of particular pleasure is the fact that there will be no rights to obtain. You can burn it onto DVD and watch it in your home theater. You can load it on to your MP3 player and watch it during your commute (on the train, not driving). Wait for the official DVD version. Whatever your little tech-savvy heart desires!

Sounds like a bold experiment, along with an interesting storyline on top of it. (He describes it as X-Files meets The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.)

Yeah. I’m intrigued. So shoot me!

Jungles and Toothpick Fish

David Nykl (aka Dr. Zelenka) has already posted from the new Stargate Atlantis season with some set pictures and a rather nice picture of Jason Momoa (aka Ronon Dex) in a tank top. (Can this ever be a bad thing?)

Sorry, gentlemen. Getting back to the subject.

They’re shooting out of order, so it shouldn’t really spoil you to see the set. And he’s very cryptic. But jokes are already going, as evidenced by some mysterious reference to the toothpick fish.

Stargate News Roundup

Amanda Tapping (aka Sam Carter) speaks with GateWorld about the journey of her character and the understandable trepidation of fans who have heard the rumor of her going to Atlantis.

Michael Shanks (aka Daniel Jackson) is no longer Mr. Nice Guy in his upcoming movie, as told to MichaelShanksOnline by the movie’s director.

And a belated congratulations to David Hewlett (aka Rodney McKay) and The Lovely Jane Loughman (TM) who have finally done what everyone else figured they would eventually: they got engaged. (One less cute geek on the market.)

And the cover art has finally been revealed for the long-awaited (really long-awaited) Stargate Atlantis Season 2 DVD.
