Out this week: Chewbacca #5, Obi-Wan and Anakin #1

This Wednesday brings two new comics, the end of one miniseries and the beginning of a second: Chewbacca #5 and Obi-Wan and Anakin #1. It’s also time to start looking for Star Wars Insider #162, which makes up for lost time with end-to-end The Force Awakens interviews.

Out last week was Darth Vader #14, the fourth part of the ‘Vader Down’ crossover event.

Our next novel release will be Alan Dean Foster’s The Force Awakens novelization in hardcover, on January 5. You can pick it up in eBook formats right now.

Star Wars out this week: Battlefront: Twilight Company, Star Wars #11

In a slight departure from all The Force Awakens buzz, Tuesday bring the novel Battlefront: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed. It has pretty good buzz from what I can tell, so if this is something that appeals to you, might as well go for it.

(Subscribers can expect the latest issue of the Star Wars Insider any day now. It contains the short story ‘Inbrief’ by Janine K. Spendlove, featuring a character from the novel. Non-subscribers… Well, it’s not on the shipping list this week, but soon.)

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s new comic is Star Wars #11. If you’ve been waiting for trades, look for collection of both Princess Leia and Kanan: The Last Padawan.

Janine K. Spendlove to write Battlefront tie-in short story

Janine K. SpendloveStar Wars Books announced today that author (and Jader!) Janine K. Spendlove is writing a short story tie-in to the upcoming novel Battlefront: Twilight Company. The story will appear in Star Wars Insider #161, which will be on sale October 20th.

Janine is the author of the War of the Seasons trilogy and numerous short stories, including the Athena’s Daughters anthologies. She is an active pilot with the U.S. Marine Corps.

The Force Awakens: Release schedule for Marvel’s Shattered Empire, John Williams has (reportedly) begun scoring

Journey to The Force Awakens: Shattered Empire #1Journey to The Force Awakens: Revealed at BookCon this weekend, thanks to via The Wookiee Gunner: Shattered Empire will be bi-weekly – two comics in September, two in November.

The first issue will be out September 2, and the trade paperback collection on November 17 – at least at the moment. (I doubt they’ll deviate much, but they are comics and September is a long way off.)

→ The Force Awakens is FINALLY on the cover of Star Wars Insider.

→ Word on the street (aka Scoring Sessions) says that John Williams has started scoring. Just as rumored!

→ Making Star Wars has a small grab-bag of rumors from the licensees, though the two main ones actually seem a little more relevant to Episode VIII than The Force Awakens. (Also, one of them made me SUPER EXCITED. But, uh, possible spoilers!)

Star Wars Magazine is on hiatus, not the Insider

star-wars-magazineUPDATE: It’s not the Star Wars Insider going on hiatus, it’s sister publication Star Wars Magazine, which used to be a Clone Wars-based publication, Jedi News corrects. So basically, nevermind. (And that explains why I didn’t get the hiatus email!)

Per their website, Star Wars Magazine hasn’t put out an issue since October.

The Star Wars Insider, which has been published by various companies over the years, traces back to Bantha Tracks, the original official Star Wars Fan Club newsletter. The current numbering began when it was called The Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine; It was renamed to Star Wars Insider in the early ’90s.

The current publisher of both is Titan Magazines, which handles a number of franchise publications.

Star Wars Insider #156 is in stores now.

Fans finally get a chance to see Revenge of the Sith in 3D

All three prequel films will be screened in 3D at Celebration Anaheim, we hear from the Star Wars Insider via Yakface.

Although The Phantom Menace 3D went into wide release in February 2012, the remaining 3D releases were “postponed” in early 2013, not long after the Disney sale/Episode VII announcement. Attack of the Clones 3D was shown at Celebration Europe in July of that year, but this will be the first chance for the public to see Revenge.

The original trilogy screenings at Celebration Anaheim will be in standard 2D.
