Star Wars out this week: The Force Awakens novelization (again) and Vader Down concludes

It came out as an eBook way back on December 18th, but Tuesday sees the release of The Force Awakens novelization in hardcover.

On Wednesday, the Vader Down storyline wraps up in Star Wars #14 and Darth Vader #15. There’s also the second Darth Vader collection, Shadows and Secrets, in trade… And although it shipped last week, Obi-wan & Anakin #1 was actually supposed to go out this week, so if your comic shop got the memo you may not have been able to find it on sale.

In other book release news, Del Rey officially announced today that Claudia Gray’s New Republic: Bloodlines and Chuck Wendig’s Aftermath: Life Debt have both been pushed back two months each. (Something that’s been reflected on our book release schedule for a while now.) Bloodlines is now due out May 3, and Life Debt on July 19. They’re our next two new novels, though there are a handful of paperback rereleases in the meantime, including the first Aftermath on March 29.

Star Wars out this week: Battlefront: Twilight Company, Star Wars #11

In a slight departure from all The Force Awakens buzz, Tuesday bring the novel Battlefront: Twilight Company by Alexander Freed. It has pretty good buzz from what I can tell, so if this is something that appeals to you, might as well go for it.

(Subscribers can expect the latest issue of the Star Wars Insider any day now. It contains the short story ‘Inbrief’ by Janine K. Spendlove, featuring a character from the novel. Non-subscribers… Well, it’s not on the shipping list this week, but soon.)

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s new comic is Star Wars #11. If you’ve been waiting for trades, look for collection of both Princess Leia and Kanan: The Last Padawan.

Out this week: Shattered Empire #2, Rise of the Empire collection, and much more

Between comics and comic reprints, there is a lot of Star Wars coming up this week. But first, on Tuesday, is The Rise of the Empire, a trade paperback that collects John Jackson Miller’s A New Dawn and James Luceno’s Tarkin, plus three brand-new short stories from Miller, Jason Fry and Melissa Scott.

But Wednesday is definitely the motherlode. If you’re keeping up with the comics in real time we have Shattered Empire #2, Star Wars #10, Darth Vader #10 and Lando #5, which finishes up the miniseries.

If it’s collections you’re after, we have the first set of stories from the new Star Wars and Darth Vader titles, plus the third hardcover omnibus of classic Marvel titles and a collection of covers from the new line.

Out this week: Star Wars #8, Kanan #5

Star Wars #8 (crop)

Out on Wednesday at your retailer of choice are two comics, both milestones for their respective titles. Star Wars #8 is the start of both a new storyline (‘Showdown on Smuggler’s Moon’) and a new artist, Stuart Immonen. Kanan #5, on the other hand, is “the final chapter of the secret origin of Star Wars Rebels’ Kanan Jarrus.” (The series will continue with a jump into the Rebels era.)

Meanwhile, Force Friday looms ever closer…

Marvel to do first formal Star Wars/Darth Vader crossover with Vader Down storyline

vader-down1Marvel’s second Star Wars announcement at SDCC is a crossover event called Vader Down. The six-part storyline will begin in Vader Down #1 and continue in the Star Wars and Darth Vader ongoings. The two series have already bounced off each other a great deal, but this time writers Jason Aaron and Kieron Gillen are teasing things like Han Solo and Aphra meeting.

“Crossover events” aren’t something we’ve had a lot of in Star Wars comics, but Dark Horse did something similar – across their whole line, in multiple time periods – with Vector in 2008.
