Last-minute pumpkin links
I didn’t almost forget Halloween – I am just in a deep blogging funk. I meant to do this Friday. Sorry, folks. :(
Templates
- Hidden in the depths of Star Wars.com, and brought to light here, are Spooky Sith-O-Lanterns. Selections include insignia, masks, and Yoda.
- Nab a couple of fan-made templates here, or throw a couple of bucks towards the Zombie Pumpkin folks.
- Pink Raygun has an impressive selection of geeky carving templates: Star Trek, Firefly/Heroes, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Donnie Darko
- And finally, for the more traditonally inclined, how about some elaborate skulls or more simple fare?
Deep geekery
- Candles are so twentieth century. Why not light your creations with LED?
- 8-bit gourds
- Pumpkin smoke bombs
- Robotic Snap-O-Lantern
- I actually remember these from last year, but what the hell: Cylon and Dalek pumpkins.
Star Trekkin’ in a Star Trek World
Don’t expect to see Jonathan Frakes back in a uniform ever again. He’s not impressed with how things progressed with the franchise.
For that matter, don’t expect to see William Shatner, either. Get a life, people!
We also get some weigh-in (and Heroes talk) from Nichelle Nichols, George Takei and Walter Koenig.
Oh, the drama!
Damnit, Jim…I’m an actor, not a —
“Dang. Wait. I am a doctor!”
And, as previously reported, it would be Karl Urban who is that “I.” StarTrek.com officially announced it to the world.
Your Star Trek Gossip for Today
Okay. We’ll start first with actual news, since TV Guide has an interview with Zachary Quinto. He’s had his first ears fitting. How cool would that be? (The article is mostly about Heroes, though.)
Now, let’s open up the gossip cage with talk about Bones. What about LOTR’s Karl Urban? According to the gossip, they’re interested if they can work out schedules.
Gossip is apparently panning out, if the blogosphere is to be believed. According to the director of White Jazz, Chris Pine has had to drop out of that film so he can play Captain Kirk.
Okay, now are we missing anyone?
Trek Keeps Surprising
Oh, my dear fans, your gossiping skills are failing you! In spite of the ongoing rumors (or maybe because of?), the role of Scotty in the new Trek movie did not go to anyone on the rumor mill. Instead? It has been given to Simon Pegg.
Yes. That Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead. I’m assuming there will be some sort of hair dying involved.
And in a surprisingly rumor-free role, the new Sulu is John Cho, most famous for Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.
Somehow, one gets the feeling that there’s a joke lingering somewhere around this casting of comedians. But at least there’s some casting getting done! Now who’s left to cast? Will we get to see Uhura in this one?
Star Trek: The Gossip Generation
Next up on the Star Trek hit parade is Chris Pine as the latest someone “being considered” to play Kirk.
Of apparently more reliable casting news, Eric Bana has been signed to play the villain.
Movie News: Pixar, Trek, Golden Compass
Pixar plans to take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom. They want first film – of a trilogy – to be out before 2012. Pixar and classic sci-fi? Why not?
Also…
- Warner Brothers denies that they’re no longer going to be making movies with women as leads; film bloggers still skeptical.
- TrekMovie.com interviews Roberto Orci, co-writer and executive producer of the upcoming Star Trek.
- Everquest apparently still popular enough for a movie.
- New trailer for The Golden Compass, again with the narration from Captain Exposition. Also, they’ve cast some voices, including replacing the original voice of Iorek, which, as talented as McKellen is, seems completely counterproductive to me.
This is what the Times actually believes
These guys are big on lists lately – this time, it’s their forty most memorable aliens. Ewoks and Max Rebo make the list, as well as other familiar faces like Doctor Who and Mr. Spock.
Channeling (and linking!) celebrity blogs
Because it’s Friday, damn it
- Thanks to the picture topping this ONTD post, I can almost understand why someone would find Daniel Radcliffe attractive. Almost.
- Jezebel has the best description of Natalie Portman’s outfit at The Darjeeling Limited premiere: Luxe Linebacker. Of course, she’s Natalie Portman, so she still looks halfway decent.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation — Where Are They Now? Warning: Contains Duff sisters.
