Movie News: WGA takes down the Globes

Golden Globes ceremony canceled due to writer’s strike. Heh. Hitting ’em where it hurts! On the plus side, the WGA has struck a deal with WGA and United Artists. The Weinsteins, Lionsgate, and Lucasfilm may be next, according to Deadline Hollywood Daily.

Caveat Collector

If you can’t trust Christie’s, than who can you trust?

Apparently a super Trek fan was duped when he bought what he thought was the famous Next Gen poker setup from Christie’s Auction House. When he asked Brent Spiner (Data) to autograph the visor, Brent informed the poor guy that he had told Paramount that he had taken the only one used. But Paramount still sold them. (via)

These are the continuing lawsuits of the starship Enterprise…

Gate Geek – Videos and Treks

Catching up on life in Gate circles, here are a few tidbits to enjoy:
Dr. Keller’s romantic life – A video in which Jewel Staite confirms that there’s just a wee bit of stuff going on between Keller and Ronon in the second half of the season. (It’s a hard life to be an actress.)
– Jewel makes another video appearance on SciFi with the release of Part 2 of her fan Q&A. A little stuff for the Firefly fans in there, as well.
– And after being snubbed for the role of Scotty in the upcoming Star Trek film, it appears that Paul McGillion (Dr. Beckett) actually ended up getting a small role. I’m sure it had a lot to do with his skills as an actor, but probably just a wee bit to do with the outrage caused by his snub. Either way, congratulations to Paul! (via)
– An actual quote from Paul regarding Star Trek, as well as the bootleg promotional video from SciFi teasing his return in Season 4.

Boldly Casting Where No One Has Cast Before

Dang. This upcoming Trek film is becoming a cast of thousands kinda film.

– According to the Hollywood Reporter, Bruce Greenwood is playing the man soon-to-be-doomed to a bad makeup job and a chair with lights. (Aka, Captain Pike in his still-mobile days.)

– In even more interesting casting news, Winona Ryder (yes, really) has been cast to play Spock’s mother, Amanda Grayson.

– Our last tidbit of casting news is that you, too, can have a chance to join this cast of thousands. There’s an open casting call this weekend for both the odd- and the good-looking to be cast as extras.

Too… many… punchlines….

Trek Talk for Today

Geez. How many people are going to be in this movie?

Apparently, Captain Pike is going to be in the upcoming Star Trek movie with Josh Lucas being rumored as in the running. (Insert comment about his great abs here.)

In other Trek Talk, Nichelle Nichols is an object of awe on the Heroes set. (I can totally understand that.)

And let’s all give out a yell for KHAAAAAN at the 2007 Scream Awards in which they celebrated the 25th anniversary of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
