It’s time to vote for your favorites in the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge. The voting period is short – only until July 10 – and there are quite a few finalists… So start watching now! (Looks like the winners will be announced at San Diego Comic Con.)
I’ll be back with my recommendations later – but a quick peruse does show a few videos that we’ve featured are in the running: ESB in 60 seconds, Tarkin n’ Friends and Ryan vs. Dorkman 2.
Amazon.ca has a listing for Fate of the Jedi 1, a new Star Wars hardcover from Aaron Allston. ‘Fate of the Jedi’ sounds like a (post-ROTS?) series name to me… Amazon gives the street date as March 24, 2009, making this our first contender for the big spring release. As always, we’re a bit wary of Amazon ‘reveals,’ but it’s certainly a possibility. (via)
Aaron will be at Comic-Con… Maybe we’ll get an announcement there?
The Official Star Wars Fan Club Breakfast at San Diego Comic Con will be Friday, July 25th at the godforsaken hour of 7am. Tickets are going for $62.75, and fan club members will be able to purchase them on Wednesday.
Collider points out that if the Screen Actors Guild decides to hit the picket line next week, promoting things at San Diego ComicCon might not happen.
Given what this convention has become, it would be decidedly odd. Sure, they could always go back to their roots and focus more on comics. But it’s all about the moving media, these days. And while die-hard fen enjoy getting to see the producers and writers, I just don’t think they’ll get as much coverage.
It’ll be interesting to see what goes down. (via)
The folks over at ExtremeTech’s Gearlog got a sneak peek at some upcoming Star Wars toys, including the new Millennium Falcon, which is 30% bigger than the old ones. (They were using the same mold for 30 years before it broke!) Head on over to the link to see another video of The Clone Wars line.
The new Falcon will be officially unveiled at San Diego Comic Con next month.
According to her website, the Republic Commando author will on hand in San Diego July 24-27 for the convention, just in time for The Clone Wars novelization to hit the shelves – if it really is coming out on July 26, that is. Are they going to wait until the con to officially announce this thing? Any day now… I hope. (via)
The familiar hand of Drew Struzan (and son) is at work on the poster for the 80th annual Academy Awards poster. In other Oscar news, the show may be picketed if an agreement isn’t reached by February 24.
Press release time! Hasbro is taking on the production of “collectible electronic lightsabers,” keeping the Force FX name, while newcomer eFX will handle the prop, vehicle and and helmet replicas. (Which will “…encompass the entire Star Wars universe.” Perhaps that means we might see some EU items? Master Replicas had made at least one step in that direction.)
Hasbro’s sabers will be out in the spring, while eFX will debut their products at SDCC.
Our good friends over at Star Wars Blog have captured some great pictures of Club Jade’s very own Rogue and Caitlin in their Star Wars costumes from Comic-Con.
Their entry in the Masquerade featured a send-up of DreamGirls called Rebel Dreams that won Lucasfilm’s Industry Award.
Congratulations!
