SDCC ’08: Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge winners

Rebelscum was reporting live from the fan film awards… Erm, Fan Movie Challenge ceremony last night. (There’s some stuff about Fanboys in there too, as well as a lot of fanboy squee.)

Here are the winners:

Congrats, everyone!

UPDATE: StarWars.com goes a bit more in-depth on the awards, including a transcript of the Fanboys portion of the evening.

Gate Geek – Things to do while NOT at Comic-Con

In order to keep with the Comic-Con theme, I will actually start out with news from Comic-Con. Then I’ll go to stuff to entertain those of us not there, this week. (Not that I’m bitter, or anything.)

  • Stargate Continuum had its world premiere on Thursday. On the deck of a carrier. (How cool is that?)
  • Not to be outdone, Joe Mallozzi counterprograms with a guest appearance on his blog by VFX guru (and Emmy nominee) Mark Savela. Cool pictures and he brings clips!
  • GateWorld waits for Friday’s Stargate panels by posting an interview with the great Robert Picardo. A wee bit on the spoilery side, but Picardo’s just so much fun.
  • The official site posts a story about last week’s episode in which Jewel Staite talks about the joys of living in a latex cage for four days.
  • And, finally, Alex Levine gets Joe Mallozzi to share some of his excitement about tonight’s episode, Broken Ties. Jason Mamoa apparently gives a performance not to be missed.

SDCC ’08: Wolverine, Watchmen, BSG

Jetlagged LFL staffers invade San Deigo

Pity them or envy them, the StarWars.com crew are off for their second con in two weeks – and here’s their SDCC setup gallery. Also attending? Marco Andretti ‘s Clone Wars car. Rebelscum is pulling double duty as well, and they’ve already got several galleries from preview night up. EU fans will probably be most interested in Hasbro’s comic packs.

Meanwhile, Del Rey’s Suvudo blog has images and a a video tour of the con floor. (But what’s up with the elevator music?)

Here comes San Diego Comic-Con

This weekend brings yet another con – the con – San Diego Comic-Con.The highlight for CJers? The Supercolossal Fan Race, of course!

  • Events: StarWars.com has the schedule of Star Wars events (and TFN has LucasArts) but since there’s so much going on, best to check the full schedule as well.
  • Merchandise: Zazzle will be holding a Star Wars election (with new merchandise lauching for those not at the con,) and of course Star Wars Shop will have plenty of exclusives
  • Book and comic guests: Writers Karen Traviss, Ryder Windham, Jeremy Barlow and Dan Wallace will be on hand, while artists include Chris Trevas, Chris Reiff and Tommy Lee Edwards, Travis Charest, Adam Hughes, Dustin Weaver, Dan Parsons and Matthew and Shaw Fillbach will be among the those signing. TFN scedules for the DK, Del Rey, and Dark Horse booths, while you can get Traviss’ event schedule (and subsequent book tour) on her website.
  • Fanboys: An exclusive screening will be held at the con, with 300 tickets being given away at the Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Awards on Thursday.

Thursday at ComicCon

There’s plenty going on, but particularly of note:

8:30-10:00 Star Wars Fan Film Awards
It’s the galaxy-spanning return of a Comic-Con favorite! The Star Wars Fan Film Awards come back to Ballroom 20 as the Thursday night big event. Ballroom 20

Speaking of, voting on the Fan Movie Challenge finalists ends on Thursday. There’s also a Random House panel at 6:00, but with Betsy Mitchell the only familiar name present, I suspect they’ll save any Star Wars publishing news for a dedicated panel. (via)

UPDATE: Or not. Here’s what Sue Rostoni had to say about on the subject:

There will be a panel dedicated to The Clone Wars program, but not one on general fiction. Frank Parisi (LFL editor) and Carol Roeder (LFL director of publishing) will be on the panel along with Leland Chee and Henry Gilroy (writer of Dark Horse Clone Wars comics) and others. Pablo will moderate. I won’t be there this year.

I guess we’re probably not getting a Millennium Falcon cover or Fate of the Jedi announcement, then…
