Reports: Alden Ehrenreich is the new Han Solo

Was the blaster a sign? Because it certainly looks like Alden Ehrenreich has the role of young Han Solo all wrapped up. Page Six was first to report last night that the alleged front-runner for the role has it in the bag, followed by The Wrap, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Entertainment Weekly.

We can only hope an official announcement is imminent, but these things can take a while.

The still-untitled Han Solo film, from The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller with a script by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, will be the second standalone Star Wars film. It’s due out in 2018 and expected to begin shooting at Pinewood Studios in London after Episode VIII wraps up.

Catching up with Rogue One: Who’s in the mystery tank?

ro-teaser1-kneeling

Making Star Wars had a big post today about an old friend who’s probably showing up in Rogue One (you know the one) and who exactly is in that tank from the trailer.

In less (possibly) spoilery news, Riz Ahmed talks to Entertainment Weekly about Star Wars, and “level of attention to detail and care that goes into building that world.” MSW chimed in with a tidbit they’ve heard about weapons.

And finally, the Rogue One teaser trailer in LEGO:

Rumor: Royals to have Episode VIII cameos?

@KensingtonRoyal: The Duke and Prince Harry come face to face with Daisy Ridley's @starwars head cast @PinewoodStudios

The Daily Mail is reporting that Princes William and Harry filmed cameos during their Episode VIII set visit last week, alongside Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and… Benicio del Toro?

Given this is the Mail, a publication not exactly known for being on the up and up, and that there was no sign of del Toro at the official set visit… Well. We’ll see. The Mail also uses a character name for del Toro that I believe originates from the recent Reddit posts.

Yes, those Episode VIII Reddit ‘spoilers’ are bullshit

viiiThere have been two so-called leaks come out at Reddit in the week or so, but neither of them are really worth putting any stock in. The first, from last week, is quite frankly so ridiculous that I’m sure sure why anyone is believing it in the first place. (Well, it’s the internet.) A few things in it ring possible to me (I’ve had similar speculative thoughts regarding the Benicio Del Toro character, for instance) but that means nothing.

The second has since been deleted, but Da7e over at Latino Review has reproduced part of it, and in any case this one has been flat-out denied several times by Pablo Hidalgo. Though note, he’s getting out of the debunking business, which is probably a good call.

But as we well know, however, it pays to be very, very cynical about ‘leaks’ this early in the process. Don’t believe everything you read! Particularly on Reddit.

Today in Episode VIII: Oscar Isaac speaks, possible costume descriptions

viii-0prodtease-rey2Oscar Isaac spoke briefly to the Los Angeles Times about Episode VIII, comparing the experience to “making an independent film,” and saying that “Rian [Johnson] is definitely going to places and investigating things that haven’t really been done in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.”

In spoiler corner, Making Star Wars has descriptions of Luke Skywalker and Rey’s costumes, while The Movie Bit has pictures of the setup-in-progress at Ceann Sibéal. UPDATE: Artist Natalia Trykowska has drawn the outfits based on MSW’s description.

Rumor: Rebels to end in season 3?

rebelsS2-sabine

Jordan Maison at Cinelinx says he’s heard that the next season of Star Wars Rebels will be the show’s last., and that it will be succeeded by a new cartoon. This does make a certain amount of sense, and cartoons do tend to have short lifespans.

There have been similar rumors in the past, saying the next cartoon may be set in the sequel era. Personally I find that unlikely until (at least) after Episode VIII, but it’s certainly not impossible.

This is just me speculating, but there’s also the possibility of a new series that takes some of the Rebels characters forward in a sort of rebranding, thus a ‘new’ show. Maybe Rebels becomes Rebellion?

In any case, stay tuned. We already know (officially) that Rogue One is going to come into play, and that certainly could play a role in the series endgame. I also expect, if this turns out to be true, we’ll heard sooner rather than later.

For the record, here’s what Pablo has to say. (He also apparently flat-out called it BS at one point.)
