ro-trailer2-k2so

Interviews from the Rogue One junket have begun coming in. Today, we have director Gareth Edwards and Alan Tudyk at /Film, while Birth Movies Death talked to Mads Mikkelsen and Riz Ahmed. More Edwards interviews at IGN and AICN. Full of Sith has a recording of the panel yesterday.

→ Thought that Zootopia scene in front of The Force Awakens was torturous? Well, with certain showings (70mm IMAX) of Rogue One, fans will be getting a whooping 7 minutes of Christopher Nolan‘s new film Dunkirk, per a new report from /Film.

→ Another reaction to the half-hour of footage screened over the weekend.

→ Two new TV spots: Surrender and Save The Rebellion.

Today in Rogue One: More press, John Knoll, and another footage review

ro-trailer2-chirrut

There was another press conference in San Francisco today. StarWars.con liveblogged it, and here’s a collection of the live-tweets. Perhaps the biggest news to come out of it: Kathleen Kennedy said that her earlier comments on female directors were taken out of context. She also said that they’re not nessarily planning to bring more cartoon characters into the standalones, ala Saw Gerrera, but they may come in more organically. Also: George Lucas saw and liked it.

Wired has a great profile of ILM’s John Knoll, who pitched the idea that became Rogue One to Kennedy.

→ Here’s another take on those 28 minutes of footage, this time spoiler-free.

Spaceship Earth, aka the big round thing at Epcot in Orlando, is being turned into the Death Star for a Rogue One event happening Monday. The Disney Parks blog will be livestreaming.

Today in Rogue One: The first 28 minutes, new clips

ro-teaser1-jgn-lights1

Some journalists got a look at the first 28 minutes of Rogue One last night, and USA Today’s Brian Truitt is surprisingly forthcoming about what he saw. The veil of secrecy is so thin this time! (Yes, that’s a spoiler warning.) Underworld rounds up some more reactions.

→ A good portion of the Rogue One cast – Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Alan Tudyk, Ben Mendelsohn, and Mads Mikkelsen, plus director Gareth Edwards – will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 9. Some of The Force Awakens cast did a similar appearance last year, so expect it to go something like this.

→ Even more clips! There’s a new TV spot, a Jyn featurette and a scene at the Yavin base featuring a familiar face.

Cast, director Gareth Edwards talk Rogue One live on Twitter, Facebook

ro-twitterlive

The live Rogue One event on Twitter turned out to be, basically, a live press conference at Lucasfilm. In attendance were director Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, and Alan Tudyk.

Here’s the chat:

The new scene:

And the Lucasfilm tour, which was quite honestly the highlight of the whole thing:

They also did a Facebook chat yesterday. The highlight? Gareth Edwards stole the Death Star plans.

Today in Rogue One: Gareth Edwards talks filmmaking, Easter eggs

ro-b2-deathstar2

With only 15 days to go, The Star Wars Show goes all in on Rogue One. Shockingly, StarWars.com will be live-streaming the premiere red carpet on December 10, but for now Andi has a new interview with Gareth Edwards. (He also pre-reveals a couple of Easter eggs.)

ro-b2-jyn-v2→ A bunch of new stills have been released! Check them out at Comicbook.com. (Yes, that’s one above, and another on the left.)

→ Diego Luna and Felicity Jones were interviewed on SiriusXM, talking about meeting other Star Wars actors, action figures, Rogue One’s benchmark, diversity and their favorite characters. Luna appeared on Good Morning America, while Riz Ahmed talked to Variety.

Tony Gilroy is taking home a nice paycheck for his work on Rogue One, The Hollywood Reporter says.

→ Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican on the U-wing.

Rogue One nabs first (second-place) box office record

ro-teaser1-jyn-diego-walk1

Rogue One is is already making box office records – sort of. It’s nabbed the second-highest first day for pre-sales in domestic box office history, second only to The Force Awakens. This is according to Imax CEO Greg Foster, who said their portion of the sales are “on the high end of the range of what the blockbuster biggest titles have done.”

This is well in line with the tracking, which predicts the film’s opening weekend will be in the range of $120M-150M – putting it well above almost all previous December openings. The Force Awakens’ $248M is the current record-holder, but #2 is currently The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with $85M.

Today in Rogue One: Kennedy doesn’t feel a need to ‘cater’ to those backlashing female leads

ro-ew-jynFelicity Jones is profiled by The New York Times – but there’s a very interesting quote in there from Kathleen Kennedy on the recent backlash to female leads in Hollywood:

“I have a responsibility to the company that I work with,” she said. “I don’t feel that I have a responsibility to cater in some way.”

She added, “I would never just seize on saying, ‘Well, this is a franchise that’s appealed primarily to men for many, many years, and therefore I owe men something.’”

Jones has quite a lot to say about her character, Jyn Erso, in Glamour:

She’s a bit of a wounded animal when you meet her. There were moments when she’s been blown over, she’s scrambling to get up, and she falls. It’s important that she’s not perfect.

She describes Jyn to a blend of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. She also addresses being a feminist, how Jyn isn’t sexualized, and being paid fairly.

ro-bistanRogue One ticket sales gave both Fandango and Movietickets.com their biggest sales day of the year, selling “hundreds of thousands of tickets.”

→ The Rogue One cast will be live (on Twitter?) this Friday.

→ The StarWars.com Databank has some new Rogue One entries, including Bistan, Moroff, Pao, Edrio Two Tubes, and the TIE Striker.

→ We may joke about Rogue Two every time someone brings up Bothans, but don’t expect a sequel to Rogue One, Kennedy tells Empire Magazine. (Of course, there’s always A New Hope.)

→ Another new TV spot, ‘Contact.’
