There’s a lot to like in Rebecca Roanhorse’s Resistance Reborn, and I suspect that the other reviews will be quite effusive. If I can’t manage that, well, I can say that if you’re at all interested in how the Resistance begins to rebuild after The Last Jedi – or if you’re a longtime reader of the new canon fiction, this is a must-read.
One of Resistance Reborn‘s biggest “secrets” is out of the bag – Wedge Antilles (and someone else canon fiction readers will recognize) will be back in the novel. StarWars.com has an excerpt, and the final cover, which you can also see below.
Resistance Reborn, by Rebecca Roanhorse, arrives November 5.
StarWars.com has the first excerpt from November’s Resistance Reborn, the novel by Rebecca Roanhorse. The excerpt is set shortly after The Last Jedi and features Leia talking to Rey about Ben, as well as brief appearance from Poe Read it on StarWars.com.
Resistance Reborn, part of the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker series, will be out in hardcover and eBook on November 5.
Rebecca Roanhorse’s Resistance Reborn isn’t coming out next week – at least for most of us – but when it does, fans who get it from Barnes & Noble will also get these double-sided bookmarks.
The book is Del Rey’s entry in the Journey to the Rise of Skywalker series, and is out on November 5 – but Del Rey is going to New York Comic Con next week (October 3-6), which will have a whole panel on Journey. There’s no con edition or early release for this round, but Roanhorse will be signing posters.
Del Rey lists three Star Wars centric panels – an audiobook one on Thursday, Lucasfilm Publishing on Friday, and the Journey panel, “Join the Resistance!” on Saturday, immediately followed by a Roanhorse signing. Other Star Wars authors signing include Delilah S. Dawson, Cavan Scott and Christian Blauvelt, and all the relevant details are in this PDF.
If you’re not attending NYCC, don’t worry – there are Journey novels coming out on Force Friday, but we’ll get to that in a day or so. (Or you can just check out the schedule, which is jam-packed.)
Rebecca Roanhorse’s Rise of Skywalker prequel novel, Resistance Reborn, now has a blurb in the Random House catalog. First spotted by @AdmiralNick22 on Twitter, it has some interesting implications.
In this pivotal prequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the heroes of the Resistance—Poe Dameron, General Leia Organa, Rey, and Finn—must fight back from the edge of oblivion.
The Resistance is in ruins. In the wake of their harrowing escape from Crait, what was once an army has been reduced to a handful of wounded heroes. Finn, Poe, Rey, Rose, Chewbacca, Leia Organa—their names are famous among the oppressed worlds they fight to liberate. But names can only get you so far, and Leia’s last desperate call for aid has gone unanswered.
From the jungles of Ryloth to the shipyards of Corellia, the shadow of the First Order looms large, and those with the bravery to face the darkness are scattered and isolated. If hope is to survive, the Resistance must journey throughout the galaxy, seeking out more leaders—including those who, in days gone by, helped a nascent rebellion topple an empire. Battles will be fought, alliances will be forged, and the Resistance will be reborn.
Start placing your bets now on who exactly the “leaders” who helped the “nascent rebellion” are. Resistance Reborn, part of the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker publishing program, is due out in hardcover and eBook November 5.
For May 4, StarWars.com has revealed the Journey to The Rise of Skywalker publishing slate. And this time, with a gap between films, we actually get several novels focusing on sequel trilogy characters.
From Del Rey, that means a new-to-Star Wars author, Rebecca Roanhorse, taking on Resistance Reborn, and Justina Ireland (Lando’s Luck) with the middle-grade Spark of the Resistance. Cavan Scott and Elsa Charretier also return with Choose Your Destiny: A Finn & Poe Adventure. From Marvel, there’s Allegiance, a miniseries involving Leia and the Mon Calamari. (Go into the galleries for more detail.)
It’s not in the gap, though: Kevin Shinick, another new-to-Star Wars author, has Force Collector, starring a “restless teenager” on Jakku prior to The Force Awakens.
Spark of the Resistance and A Finn & Poe Adventure are first out on October 4; The four-issue Allegiance begins October 9 and drops weekly through the 30th; Resistance Reborn is out November 12 and Force Collector on November 19.
For our nonfiction and reference offerings, we’ve got the same basic template we’ve seen since TFA. Phil Szostak’s The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Pablo Hidalgo’s The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary are both due out the same day as the film: December 20.
A movie novelization isn’t expected until spring. There’s more of the usual kid stuff and sticker books at StarWars.com.
