Star Wars out this week: Double Padmes

It’s a big week for releases, with one novel and several comics coming in. First up, on Tuesday, March 5, is E.K. Johnston’s Queen’s Shadow, a Pdame YA novel that bridges The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones and has been drawing a lot of praise from the early reviewers.

Then on Wednesday, March 6, head to the comic shops for even more Padme with Age of Republic: Padme Amidala. If that’s not quite your thing, there’s also Star Wars #62, Darth Vader: Dark Visions #1, and for the all-ages crows, IDW’s graphic novel adaptation of The Empire Strikes Back. Marvel, not to be outdone, has Ewoks reprints.

Padme is in Thrawn: Alliances, and subject of a new excerpt

Padme Amidala stars in the third excerpt from Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn: Alliances. (To be fair, she was mentioned in the last one, where a young Anakin Skywalker meets pre-Imperial Thrawn.) There’s also new poster art, which will be available only in the Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of the book.

The excerpt was announced on this week’s Star Wars Show.

The standard editions of the book will be out on July 24, but fans can get a special con exclusive version a little earlier at SDCC.

Is there a Padme Amidala YA novel in the pipeline?

It appears that there may be a Padme Amidala YA novel in the works – at least per the franchise’s German publisher, Panini. There’s not much info – no author, no details on where it might be set in the prequel era – so there’s still a lot to wait for in an official announcement. Still, this does seem a natural followup to the recent Leia and Ahsoka novels, so I can’t see any real reason to doubt it’s happening.

UPDATE: Panini asked Jedi Bibliothek to remove the listing. Curious.

Also dropping today – officially – is a preview of the Thrawn comic, which adapts Timothy Zahn’s canon novel from earlier this year. The series will kick off with #1 in February, and it brings back long-haired Thrawn to boot.

And one from last week- an excerpt of Canto Bight, The Last Jedi novella tie-in that’s out on December 5. The excerpt is from John Jackson Miller, but the collection also includes works from Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson and Mira Grant.
