→ What’s not in The Last Jedi? Romance. There’s “no one-to-one equivalent of the Han-to-Leia, burning, unrequited love.” Johnson says. “In our story, that’s not a centerpiece.” Good.
Another Celebration is in the books, and that means another attendance record. Celebration Orlando attendance was more than 70,000 people, StarWars.com says. That’s up from Anaheim’s 65K in 2015, and double our last Orlando outing in 2012. No wonder things got a bit… Messy. Attendees, look out for the surveys and be sure to fill them out.
We learned before the con that the next Celebration won’t be until 2019 – probably skipping the overseas outings that we had in 2014 and 2016. The leading speculation seems to be that we’ll be headed back to Anaheim, but since we didn’t get a location on Sunday we’ll be left hanging for a while longer. On the plus side, Pablo made a cannon canon.
In the meantime, here are a few other things we learned that I never got around to writing up, because cons are crazy.
It’s another super-sized Rebels Recon for ‘Zero Hour.’ Andi chats about the episode with Carrie Beck, Dave Filoni, Joel Aron, Kilian Plunkett, Keith Kellogg, Henry Gilroy and Pablo Hidalgo. (Pablo is also back to answer a ‘Twin Suns’ question.)
Chopper was compromised in Saturday’s ‘Double Agent Droid.’ Andi chats with Stephen Stanton, Pablo Hidalgo, Henry Gilroy and Dave Filoni. Meanwhile, Pablo is… Off. But a question still gets answered!
And here’s another quick preview of next week’s ‘Twin Suns.’
Mon Mothma resigns from the Senate and meets up with the Ghost crew on this week’s “Secret Cargo.” In Recon, Andi Gutierrez chats with Taylor Gray, Henry Gilroy, Dave Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo about the episode, while Pablo answers a Thrawn question.
Rebels checks back in with Thrawn and Kallus in ‘Through Imperial Eyes.’ On Recon, Andi interviews Pablo Hidalgo, Henry Gilroy, Dave Filoni, Kilian Plunkett and Freddie Prinze Jr. Plus, Filoni and Chopper on the Rogue One set.
Lots of Mandalore knowledge dropped in ‘Legacy of Mandalore,’ and even more in Recon. Andi talks to Tiya Sircar, Pablo Hidalgo, Henry Gilroy and Dave Filoni about the episode.
The episode also featured the return of a very specific title… Which seems to have been given a new meaning. It’s not mentioned in Recon, but more on that in a few days.
As revealed on this week’s Star Wars Show, the Barnes & Noble edition of Aftermath: Empire’s End will come with posters featuring Norra Wexley and Grand Admiral Rae Sloane. Also, more Rogue One behind-the-scenes action with Pablo Hidalgo, and Ando chats with the film’s co-producer, John Swartz.
Rogue One nabbed two Oscar nominations today, for Visual Effects and Sound Mixing. Big Shiny Robot has a couple of statements from John Knoll and sound designer Chris Scarbosio. As for Star Wars alumni, Natalie Portman has received her third nomination, this time for lead in Jackie. She won the category for Black Swan in 2011.
→ Rogue One effects guy Todd Vaziri sheds some light on the Death Star’s trench run. Yes, this is mostly about A New Hope, but there are explanations (both practical and in-universe) for the equator dish schematic.
