Moviefone’s 25 best movie sequels of all time has Return of the Jedi at 21 and Empire Strikes back at #2, with lots of other familiar faces along the way.
Blast from the past
The Gold Standard
What’s a list of summer blockbusters without Star Wars? I don’t know, but thankfully we don’t have to find out.
VES recognizes Star Wars
Star Wars is #1 on the Visual Effects Society’s list of the most-influential visual effects films of all time, surprising no one. Blade Runner, 2001, The Matrix, and Jurassic Park round out the top five.
Thursday Diversions
I’ve been too busy for random surfing, but SF Signal to the rescue – they found three (well, four – but we already linked the subwoofer) great Star Wars diversions yesterday: Everything Star Wars, the top 15 Han Solo quotes you need to use in regular conversation, and learn to speak Ewok. Though why anyone would feel the need to talk to Ewoks is mystery to me.
Wizard’s Star Wars top tens
Comic magazine Wizard lists the top ten movie and comic moments. Dorky white Vader at #3? Um…
“Guns. Lots of guns.”
Plenty of familiar moments in SF Signal’s seven coolest scenes in science fiction film and television. Including Raiders of the Lost Ark seems to be stretching the limits of ‘science fiction,’ though.
Nobody puts Chewie in the corner!
A British survey found that the Star Wars trilogy is the most-watched film for men, and the second most-watched for woman. Look, I’ll admit to having seen Dirty Dancing (the woman’s #1) more than once, but… dude.. Another CJ favorite, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, also makes both lists, at #6 on the women’s and #10 on the men’s. And surprisingly, The Matrix makes #9 on the women’s list, with no showing on the men’s, and the woman-kicks-alien-ass appeal of Alien and Aliens makes a high showing on the men’s list, but is absent from the female’s. And hey – no Titanic!
The fine art of the sequel
Prompted by the summer movie season’s first big hype, Spider-Man 3*, MSNBC looks at the best and worst movie sequels. Empire Strikes Back makes the best list.
* Interested in Spidey? Pablo reviews the latest installment. (Spoilers!)
There can be only 25
Entertainment Weekly has decided to cause mass whining and gnashing of teeth by putting together a list of The Sci-Fi 25, celebrating the best sci-fi moments of the past 25 years.
You need something to write about on your blog, don’t you?
