Today updated their first J.K. Rowling story with more info from their interview, and added another earlier this morning.
She Speaks!
JK Rowling, chief instigator of the Potterdämmerung, will be appearing on NBC’s Today Show on Thursday and Friday. And (according to NBC’s teaser article) she’s now feeling free to discuss some key decisions.
Don’t go there if you’re not done reading!
Resistance is futile
I just happened to run across this, I swear: Seventy-two million copies. The world really isn’t going to shut up about Harry, are they? God help us all.
Speaking of, Andrew Wheeler and the Dozen Potter Stories.
Hell, not even the Sith are immune.
Potter Morning Newsblast: The End
Perhaps we slightly overestimated the whole Potterdämmerung thing. Live and learn! In any case, this is the last time I’m googling it.
All is well
- Deathly Hallows sets sales records. 8.3 million copies in 24 hours, and that’s just Scholastic. Globally, an estimated 20 million.
- Reviews: AP calls it a ‘fitting finale’; Entertainment Weekly, ‘stunningly beautiful;’ BBC, an ‘entirely fulfilling end.’
- Is Potter on track to being the biggest franchise of all time?
- Did Deathly Hallows harm Order of the Phoenix at the box office?
Potterdämmerung: It’s heeerrrreee!
Maybe now that the book is out there can be a little less bemoaning? Or not. In any case, I got a wrap to do so I’ll just point y’all towards Andrew Wheeler’s HP round-up.
Harry Potter Week: Fan Art
The book is out overseas and so far the internet is fine. Or is it?

Since the list is currently speculating on Snape’s role in the new book, here’s a take on his vital moment from Half-Blood Prince: The Lightning-Struck Tower by Margaux Kindhauser.
Possible Half-Blood Prince casting
Stuart Townsend, Joseph Fiennes and Naomi Watts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? Now given there’s not a single legitimate source involved yet it’s far from certain, but folks are speculating Watts for Narcissa Malfoy, Fiennes for Tom Riddle Senior (ha ha!) and several parts for Townsend, most of which he seems to be too young for. (Rufus Scrimgeour? Fenrir Greyback?)
Warning: Don’t expect the comments at the link to be spoiler-free for Deathly Hallows.
Potterdämmerung Morning Bulletin
So we learned yesterday a possible source for those leaked Hallows – a distributor shipped books early. (Although it should be noted that the first of the ‘carpet book’ pictures – the full leak – showed up over the weekend.) Unsurprisingly, Scholastic says they’ll be taking legal action. Meanwhile, leak coverage continues.
And also…
- Top ten possible endings. Guest starring… Ewoks!
- Six questions the last Harry Potter book had better f#@king answer. No Ewoks in this one.
- Sydney Morning Herald: Let Harry Potter’s last word be his last, whatever it is.
- The Church of England sees Potter as opportunity.
- Fans already lining up at California Borders.
- Reuters paws at the surface of fandom.
- HP proves folks still read for fun. Danielle Steel’s 300+ weeks on the NYT bestsellers list agree.
- Nicholas Lezard for the opposition: “It is time to make a stand against Harry Potter.”
HERE THERE BE SPOILERS! YAAR!
- I say spoilers but there’s really nothing shockingly revealing here: The New York Times finds the book at a local ‘retail outlet’, reviews it.
- The Baltimore Sun also nabbed an early copy.
- Now this has spoilers. (At least for now.)
And here’s one for Yav: Hogwarts Professor, Thoughts for the Serious Reader of Harry Potter.
