Sorry TFUers; the funny always wins. Today’s selection is Harry Potter in the Hood. Are you down with H. Piddy? Don’t miss the lyrics. I’m so amused I don’t even mind going to MySpace for ’em! (via Neatorama)
Save your pennies
A rare set of the Harry Potter book series, signed by J.K. Rowling, is to be auctioned off for charity.
They will be auctioned off on eBay in aid of local charity Books Abroad which supplies books to children in 80 countries worldwide.
The Potter books are expected to raise at least £20,000.
Also, the release dates for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix have been confirmed as November 12 in the UK and December 11 in the United States (no word official word on Canada yet).
Movie news: Potter, Trek, Narnia, rumors
Jim Broadbent reveals that he’ll play Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. He’s everywhere! (He also talks about his Indiana Jones role at the link.) In other casting news, looks like Zoe Saldana will be playing Uhura in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek.
In other news…
- First Prince Caspian poster. Fangirls, meet your new girly-man squee magnet. (Sorry, Orlando.)
- Heath Ledger talks about being the Joker. (Link links to video.)
- The Last Starfighter: The Musical. …What? Why? Were the rights cheap?
Rumor mill
- Geoffrey Rush talks Pirates 4. Nothing really solid, but I am just taking this opportunity to say I would so watch a Barbossa movie.
- Shia LeBouf as Y: The Last Man’s Yorick?
- Viggo Mortsensen in The Hobbit? Well, someone has to bring the pretty, I suppose.
There goes the neighborhood
Harry Potter passes James Bond as the film franchise that brings in the most bucks worldwide. Star Wars is #3.
According Variety, this is without taking inflation into account, and Star Wars is still champ domestically. Damn right.
Potter! Potter!
The release date for the DVD of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is now being reported as December 11.
With the start of filming for Half-Blood Prince just around the corner, more casting news is finally becoming available. David Thewlis will be returning as Remus Lupin and James and Oliver Phelps will apparently be back as the Weasley twins (woot!).
Oh, and Daniel Radcliffe is nervous about being naked on Broadway.
Make your own wand – from paper!
It might be too late for Dragon*Con (Not to mention the Deathly Hallows release) but anyone planning to dress up in a Potterish fashion for Halloween may find these paper wandmaking instructions fairly useful – and definitely cheaper than the screen replicas! I bet this method could probably be adapted for quickie lightsaber handles as well. (via not martha)
Harry Potter and the Other
Here’s an interesting article on politics, religion, multiculturalism and Britishness in the Potterverse.
Harry Potter: The Musical!
Coming to London’s West End… maybe.
Producers are already working on script ideas and hope to bring the musical to London’s West End next year.
They are looking for a big-name composer to write the music.
I nominate Sir Rogue and Jeff!
Fall release for OotP DVD?
At least those in the United Kingdom will be getting it November 12th. No word yet on North America or the rest of the world.
Do you feel lucky, punk?
Scholastic has finally kicked off their sweepstakes to distribute tickets to J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows reading at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The date for the event is Friday, October 19.
Rowling will be doing a total of four readings on her U.S. tour, but the Carnegie Hall gig is the only one that adults have a shot of attending.
Contest rules also state that if you win, you must bring Yav with you.
