Visions. So I haven’t been unimpressed with the peeks we’ve had of this ‘mystery’ book so far, but I wasn’t really blown away until Raymond Swanland’s ‘Shadows of Tatooine’ appeared today. It may not be ‘The Death of General Wolfe’ pastiche I so greatly desire, but: WANT.
Fate of the Jedi. Why hello there! Get your first look at Lando on the back cover of Allies.
Comics: io9 has the preview for Legacy #46.
Aaron will be giving away an autographed and personalized copy of next week’s release to the person who can guess the below:
So, what’s the contest? I sometimes imagine a specific actor or actress when I’m writing a character. It can be useful to see specific expressions characteristic of that performer, to hear dialogue in the exact voice of an individual. Such was the case when I was writing the Admiral Daala character in Outcast and Backlash, especially the former. Guess who the actress I was envisioning when writing Daala and the copy is yours.
Head over to AaronAllston.com for a couple of hints – and how to enter.
Inspired by remarks by @bantamspectra and @brownjawa on Twitter, I’ve been thinking about Star Wars book covers. What works? What doesn’t? Clearly this is subjective, but here’s my take. Continue reading “Nitpicking the Star Wars novel covers”
Sue Rostoni documents a “typical day” on her blog, dropping a few bits of news along the way. The highlights:
Lost Tribe of the Sith returns with ‘Paragon’. (The excerpt from Allston’s Fate of the Jedi: Backlash starts on page 37.) Meanwhile, Old Republic go-to guy John Jackson Miller talks a bit about Knight Errant on his blog… Where he’ll be counting down to the Knights of the Old Republic finale on his blog.
Crosscurrent: Paul S. Kemp’s Star Wars debut is an official bestseller: It’s on the New York Times list at #10 and Publishers Weekly at #8. All this and two more reviews: Graeme’s Fantasy Book Review and Jawas Read Too.
Interview: The lovely and talented Mandy of TFN explores the GFFA with the amusing and knowledgeable Daniel Wallace.
Comics: Legacy was Day 37 of CBR’s Year of Cool Comics. Or, since I’m fairly sure y’all already know about Legacy, head over to Dark Horse for previews of issue #45 and Knights of the Old Republic #50.
The official site brings us our first look at the cover for Troy Denning’s Vortex, the sixth Fate of the Jedi novel.
NJOE was the first to notice that Random House has posted the summary for Christie Golden’s Allies, the fifth Fate of the Jedi novel. Check it out below the cut. Continue reading “Random House blurb for Fate of the Jedi: Allies“
Sue Rostoni was out on the boards today, and though she didn’t say much, she did say that Zekk, left adrift after the cancellation of the standalone Blood Oath, will make an appearance in Fate of the Jedi. She also clarified that the lack of an epic series post-FOTJ will not mean any less books.
Meanwhile, in the fan realm, TFN has a source that claims we’ll find out the fate of a familiar face in book five, Golden’s Allies. I don’t find this particularly worrying, mainly because Backlash is an Allston book. Sorry, I misread this originally, and honestly now I’m a lot more doubtful of this ‘spoiler.’ Not because of Golden, but because it seems too early for Allies ARCs, the most likely source for something like this.
In any case, this news is going to be blown totally out of proportion by the fandom. Thanks, Paul. :P
Random House’s Summer 2010 catalog has surfaced, and naturally, it contains some Star Wars items. Mostly old news, like for Fate of the Jedi: Allies (page 81,) but the listing for Sean William’s Old Republic novel (page 89) has a summary:
Smuggler Jet Nebula has stumbled across a treasure richer than he ever dreamed. The Hutts want to auction it to the highest bidder, be it the Republic or the Empire, both of whom hope to bolster their chances in the coming conflict. But the Sith are interested, too, and they don’t bargain with anyone; the Jedi High Council is sending someone to investigate; a mysterious Mandalorian is chasing something connected to a long-forgotten crime; while a spy plays every side at once. What Jet has unearthed will surprise all of them, and leave none of them unchanged.
(‘Jet Nebula’? Really?)
There’s also a cover for the book, but don’t get too excited. It’s ‘for solicitation only’ and the art looks like a still from the MMO’s trailer. And given that the listing doesn’t use the full title (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance) its possible that some of the catalog info may already be outdated.
Also making a showing is Star Wars Generations (page 91) and Clone Wars Gambit: Siege (page 97.)
