Wham, bam, Fanboys on Blu-ray
SDCC ’08: Saturday and Sunday at the con
While I don’t doubt there were still plenty of Star Wars fans still roaming around Saturday and Sunday, with most of the panels being on Friday there wasn’t much new floating around. Well, except for the Mandalorian wedding. (Oye vey.) And Cinematical posted a brief review of Fanboys. And the official site has more pictures, of course, while Rebelscum continues exhaustively documenting the booths and products of every licensee.
- The Dollhouse panel featured Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku and Tamoh Penikett.
- SPOILERS: They showed the entire first episode of Heroes S3. That’s so not cool. Well, for us, anyway.
- Sorry Paula, but they just won’t shut up about Battlestar Galactica.
- Video: The Movie Blog nabs a few minutes with Paul Ens; Naomi Novik gets a gift from a fan; See a teaser for Pixar’s next, Up.
- Also: Neil Gaiman’s new project, Lost, Futurama, Terminator Salvation, and The Sarah Conner Chronicles

This weekend brings yet another con – the con – San Diego Comic-Con.The highlight for CJers? The Supercolossal Fan Race, of course!

Fans in the news: Ernie Cline, 501st
- We haven’t heard much from the Fanboys camp lately, but UGO talks to the film’s co-writer, Ernie Cline. He has good news, though – director Kyle Newman is back on board, and his cut is the one that will be released later this year.
- The Pioneer Press features Minnesota droidmaker and costumer Michael Hansen and pals.
- And there’s more 501st action over at The Lake Oswego Review, which covered a Make-A-Wish event in Oregon, where Darth Vader gifted Owen Miller, a young boy with cancer, with his own stormtrooper armor and lightsaber.
Did the Fanboys protests fizzle?
Lackluster turnout and loads of security kept Fanboys protesters from making much of a scene, says The Hollywood Reporter. However, it’s worth noting that they’re pinning organization of the protests on the 501st, which has had a statement on their site since Wednesday that the group is neutral on the Fanboys backlash.
In any case, Stop Darth Weinstein is celebrating boycott target Superhero Movie‘s $9.5 million box office this weekend.
Fanboys resistance puts Weinsteins on notice
Word spreads on the Fanboys edit controversy, as the Weinsteins pledge to release both edits on DVD. A hefty two pages on the issue went up on Hollywood Reporter Monday, and now blogs all over are picking it up, including The Beat and EW’s Popwatch.
Meanwhile, the Stop Darth Weinstein folks are holding protests this Saturday in New York and Los Angeles.
