It’s getting to be that time again… StarWars.com posted their own mammoth Best of 2009 this morning. Below is my personal list. Since it is personal, it’s clearly missing some things. (As always, I don’t speak for all of Club Jade. I just post a lot.) So let’s get to it: Continue reading “Dunc’s top ten Star Wars events of 2009”
The fandom minute: Comedy, charity, fanboy brawling and everything in-between
Video: io9 has a fine collection of Star Wars-themed stand-up videos, some of which we’ve seen before. They also discovered Darth Vader’s Psychic Hotline.
- Help a padawan. TFN alerts us to the plight of young Maddie.
- The important questions of our time. What was the best year for movies? 1997, 1994, or 1999?
- 501st. Fanboys director Kyle Newman was inducted into the 501st Legion.
- Ode to fandom, sort of. Variety did an article about the Star Wars presence at SDCC. That’s kinda snarky for Variety…
- Blog: Distracted by Star Wars.
Catching up with Lightsabre interviews
Lightsabre have been busy – this weekend bring the second part of their interview with Fanboys director Kyle Newman. And among their other recent guests is the always-entertaining Anthony Daniels.
Catching up with Fanboys
Above, video from the Los Angeles DVD release party at the Golden Apple. Meanwhile, for those who have moved beyond hard copy, the movie is available on iTunes and selling well – making it up to the #5 in their top movie sales. (It’s dropped to #24 at the moment, though – fell free to give it a boost.)
In related news, actor Jay Baruchel (Windows) has a part in Night At The Museum 2.
Drive-by movie news: Benders, Fanboys, Terminators and Potters (oh my)
First Airbender pics are here. If you squint you can see Aang’s tattoo, but Zuko’s scar (and ponytail) seem MIA. Sigh.
Seriously, what if it sucks? Fanboys to head to Sydney for a sequel? Nice idea, but I’m not holding my breath.
You like Harry Potter, little fan? Have some Half-Blood Prince TV spots. Or perhaps a clip?
He’s John Connor. JOHN CONNOR! Terminator Salvation has already taken in $3 million, despite a a steady stream of bad reviews.
Obligatory Twilight news. Kristen Stewart looks thrilled to be in the New Moon poster. Meanwhile, poor Robert Pattinson confirms they’ll be taking the movies all the way through Breaking Dawn. I for one can’t wait to see how they handle the… Well, you know.
The Force-Cast celebrates Fanboys DVD with… A commentary track!
Fanboys director Kyle Newman and writer Ernie Cline join the Force-Cast crew for a DVD commentary track. It’s sure to be full of lethal nerdity, so prepare yourselves!
If you don’t have the DVD yet, they’re going live tonight with a special look at the (gasp!) Star Trek film.
Out this week: Fanboys, No Prisoners, KOTOR
Fanboys is coming out on DVD tomorrow, and if you’re in Los Angeles you can head over to a release party then… Or one in San Diego tonight.
On the book front Tuesday is a big day for Traviss fans, as The Clone Wars: No Prisoners and the Order 66 paperback will both be in stores. And the comic fans can look forward to Knights of the Old Republic #41 on Wednesday.
Drive-by movie news: Wolverine, Star Trek, Kyle Newman and more
Wolverine rules the box office. Naked Hugh Jackman and friends brought in a whooping $160M worldwide this weekend. Also interesting? 47% of the U.S. audience was female. (Hey, look: It had issues, but it was better than X3. Plus, naked Jackman.) Looks like there may be a sequel in the offing after all.
Next week’s shiny. Wolvie faces his first real competition with the release of the new Star Trek on Friday. Anticipation is high, and the reviews are almost ridiculously positive – 100% on Rotten Tomatoes at the moment. And if you must know, Geoff Boucher has the skinny on the film’s homage to ESB.
And on that note… Stephen King’s Dark Tower series may be next for J.J. Abrams.
Let’s not forget Fanboys. With the DVD out in a few weeks, Lightsabre talks to director Kyle Newman.
Only because I am obliged to post it. Pretty much nothing going on with Indy 5.
Your final comic book tidbit. The first picture from Iron Man 2.
Fanboys still expanding as much as it can
Twelve new locations this weekend, including Charlotte, North Carolina, which will have the 501st’s Carolina Garrison in attendance Saturday night.
Meanwhile, StarWars.com has the DVD art. Look for it in stores May 19, aka the 10-year anniversery of The Phantom Menace.
Fanboys head for northern climes
Canada is finally getting Fanboys this weekend. Look for the film in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal.
