There’s no better time to visit your local comic book store than Free Comic Book Day, aka this Saturday. Although there are no Star Wars titles this year, there will be miniatures from WOTC.
And it’s as good a time as any to try a Star Wars comic or two – I’d recommend going for trades – the first two Legacy graphic novels are out, and Star Wars Tales is always a good bet. (Yes, you can get them at Borders or B&N, but most comic book stores are independently run and could use the support.) Comic fans, what would you recommend?
Fanforce Portugal has an interview with Dark Horse’s Randy Stradley, grand poobah of their Star Wars line. Revealed: Dark Times and Rebellion are going on hiatus after Vector for the two The Clone Wars tie-ins, one a standard comic and the other one in the Clone Wars Adventures digest. (Knights of the Old Republic and Legacy will remain.) He also talks about the rest of the line, fan feedback, and Chewbacca’s death.
A federal judge ruled Wednesday that they are entitled to a part of the copyright on the character that Siegel co-created. Time Warner, the parent company of D.C. Comics, may owe the heirs for use of the character since 1999. The ruling, if upheld, will no doubt complicate matters for a Superman Returns sequel and Justice League film.

When Whedon’s not busy out walking the picket line or blogging in support of the strike, he can be found promoting the latest Serenity graphic novel. Perhaps the upside of this strike will be that he’ll have more time for the new one he’s hoping to finish in 2008.
Following the the footsteps of Dark Horse’s hugely successful Buffy: Season Eight comics, IDW Publishing (Yes, different publishers… Funny, huh?) is taking on Angel Season Six. But can they duplicate Dark Horse’s success without Whedon? AICN has a preview – judge for yourself.
Speaking of Y: The Last Man, the book’s writer Brian K. Vaughan is interviewed over at StarWars.com. He’s also scripting a forthcoming arc for the Buffy comic.
