Video: Force Friday Countdown: Force Wednesday!


Jawajames, Yowie the Skunk and Baby Jawa are back at it again! They take unboxing Star Wars stuff very seriously in today’s video for Force Friday Countdown: Wednesday. This time, they review Star Wars fruit snacks; DK’s Ultimate Star Wars by Tricia Barr, Adam Bray, Dan Wallace, and Ryder Windham; and Adam Gidwitz’ retelling of The Empire Strikes Back: So You Want to be a Jedi?. Video: Countdown to Force Friday

Jawajames is back with a new Star Wars unboxing video. Undeterred that he wasn’t selected to be one of the official unboxing hosts for Force Friday, he’s rounded up some recent and upcoming Star Wars products to review with his co-hosts, Yowie the Skunk and Baby Jawa. Reviews include Star Wars cereal, Dark Disciple by Christie Golden, and the upcoming retelling of A New Hope: The Princess, The Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy by Alexandra Bracken.

Marvel’s February comic solicitations; Alexandra Bracken added on kid’s ANH adaption

Marvel’s February solicitations (via The Beat) are out, and it includes not only Darth Vader #1, but the second issue as well. (Cover at right.) Both issues will have variant covers, naturally. You can get a preview of Darth Vader #1over at Marvel.com. Also listed is Star Wars #2.

The third SDCC title, the Princess Leia miniseries, will launch in March.

In other EUish sorts of news, we learned a few days ago that Alexandra Bracken is replacing R.J. Palacio on the retelling of A New Hope for young readers. Subtitled Being the Story of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and the Rise of the Rebellion, it’s due out on June 23. The book was announced back in April, and the other two original trilogy adaptions are still being penned by authors Adam Gidwitz and Tom Angleberger.

Disney Publishing announces new Star Wars kids books


Disney Publishing, which we already knew was handling the Rebels books, now announces new original-trilogy books for young readers. They’ve tapped bestselling children’s authors Tom Angleberger (The Strange Case of Origami Yoda,) Tony DiTerlizzi (The Spiderwick Chronicles,) Adam Gidwitz (A Tale Dark and Grimm,) and R.J. Palacio (Wonder.)

The Adventures of Luke SkywalkerDiTerlizzi will handle The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, which is being illustrated with Ralph McQuarrie’s concept paintings. Palacio will adapt A New Hope, Gidwitz has The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars vet Angleberger takes on Return of the Jedi. All three will be illustrated by prequel and Episode VII concept artist Ian McCaig. (via)

The books will start hitting the shelves in October.

So yes, things are still up in the air as regards the adult novels. Though I did recently learn that Hachette does have an adult sci-fi imprint – Orbit (which yes, I knew of before – just not that it was linked to Hachette. Ugh, stupid me.) But they don’t seem to handle licensed work – could that change if Hachette gets Star Wars after the Del Rey contract expires? Or will Disney Press expand beyond kids’ and art books? Time will tell.
