TFN reports that Lucasfilm is auctioning off two 501st Stormtrooper figures for the AIDS Emergency Fund. The figure was originally a Comic Con exclusive, but a version with the Star Wars Spectacular seal and George Lucas trading card was given to Parade participants.
Hello, hello
Like you weren’t gonna watch it anyway
Reel reviews Heart of an Empire, aka the 501st documentary.
Mary Gets Serenaded
It’s a rare thing for us to see Mary Franklin flustered.
It only lasts a few minutes, but you can see her just a wee bit flumoxed as she is serenaded by some very talented members of the Grambling State Band, as seen in this video.
She, of course, gets over it quickly and appears to be quite enjoying it. Lucky Mary!
Thanks to Jimmy from GA501st for the tip that this was finally posted.
They have jobs, Bob
Starwars.com sets the record straight. They’re also cycling video greetings from 501st garrisons around the world.
Bob Eubanks apology
DJ Maul wrote to Bob Eubanks about the Rose Parade annoucer’s discourteous comments regarding the 501st (“They need to get jobs.”) and received an apology. There’s also word that Eubanks made a public apology, but the main source seems to be a now-deleted entry on a Livejournal community. I’ll be keeping an eye on 501st.com for further news.
ETA: L.A. TFNers are saying that Eubanks was taking calls on Mike & Brian, a local radio show.
Y HALO THAR 2007
It’s the 30th anniversary of Star Wars, so expect… stuff. Yeah! Also, Rose Parade rehearsal pics.
More Rose Parade coverage:
- Coverage from another network – Offers a closer look at the Spectacular than the KTLA/Travel Channel version.
- HGTV’s coverage.
- Accounts from two participants, JediRacer and Skyryder, on the L.A. Fanforce boards.
- Sam Knapp and Bob Schultz cheer for George
- A closer look at Grambling and the 501st marchers.
- Stormtroopers and Naboo float as the parade starts, as taped by (or near) some very enthusiastic Anakin fans!
- Behind-the-scenes prep from Lorelei and Miana-Dude.
- Parade pics from Darth Haggis, JediRacer and swguru2004.
- Bonnie blogs the troop’s arrival in Pasadena.
- The Stooge meets George Lucas.
Several fans on TFN report that LFL people were taping the parade for a DVD release (or Hyperspace, maybe?) Just the sort of thing one would expect on the inevitable Saga box set…
So, true believers…
How was the parade? L.A.’s KTLA has video clips, the Spectacular being about 5 minutes into part 5. You can also vote for your favorite float.
Bob Eubanks is kind of a jerk, but the Spectacular won a Tournament Special Trophy, so who needs him?
One fan, ValedaKor of Los Angeles FanForce, has posted her pictures from the crowd.
501st video clips
George addresses the troops, for those who didn’t (or couldn’t… Damn WMVs) catch it on the 501st site. Marching practice also made some local news stations: NBC 4 and CBS 2.
Is it Monday yet?
Oh, thank George: Bonnie will be live-blogging the Rose Bowl stuff, and she’s dug up some more media links as well.
Apparently the troops made it onto that bastion of journalism, Entertainment Tonight. Nothing on Youtube so far, but I did find a dancing Stormtrooper, and that’s good enough for me.
