Star Wars audiobooks are now available on iTunes. Prices start at $12.95 for most of the novels, with the unbridged prequel novelizations go for as much as $31.95. There doesn’t appear to be a central storefront, however, so you have to look them up by author. (Looking up ‘Star Wars’ only gets you prequel novelizations and a handful of Trek!)
Not all the novels are there – I looked up Zahn and there’s only the Thrawn trilogy, while Betrayal is the only LOTF book up – but the list is still quite impressive, with a good number of Bantam offerings (lots of X-Wing novels) and most of the NJO.
I’m sorry. If you’re not paying for packaging and shipping, etc, why do you have to pay that much money to download those suckers?!
Well, they cost like $30 in the store, right? I don’t know – I hate audiobooks with a passion. But $13 is a lot more reasonable than $30, that’s for sure. And the convenience – I doubt you’d find a lot of these in stores now.
From what I recall reading about iTunes, the price points are often a delicate negotiation.
The unabridged prequel books are ridiculous, though, in ways above and beyond price points. The TPM and AOTC novelizations are barely worth the paper they’re printed on, let alone $32 bucks.
