Signs say: Kylo Ren book in the works? (Or is it?)

A mishap with an Australian book listing for Delilah Dawson’s Black Spire seems to have spilled the beans: There might be a Kylo Ren book in the pipeline somewhere. Or a Kylo Ren book proposal, anyway. Maybe? It’s a little fishy.

First spotted by @thiscaringlark (via sleemo) this listing shows this is clearly something in the very early stages. Here’s the text as it was when I saw it – the first screenshot lacks the first paragraph:

CONFIDENTIAL AND UNANNOUNCED A stand-alone Star Wars title delving into the character of one of the biggest names in the Star Wars universe: Kylo Ren.

THIS IS UNCONFIRMED AND STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Kylo Ren is a relatively new character in the Star Wars universe, first making his appearance in The Force Awakens and played by Adam Driver. With a complicated origin story, this book hopes to look deeper into Kylo Ren’s past and reveal more of the mystery’s behind the mask.

Now – the changing text. Could this be a hack? And check out the reaction from Del Rey’s Tom at the TFN boards. Curiouser and curiouser…

But let’s consider this is for real. Nothing here says it’s a novel, although that is the most likely conclusion due to this being via Penguin Random House. We do know that a Journey to The Rise of Skywalker is coming, though those books are probably already approved and in the works, so my suspicion is that this is something being proposed for 2021 or beyond, for after the dust of the sequel trilogy has settled a little.

And I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we have seen this sort of thing happen before – although not quite at this early point – and it has actually lead to books being outright canceled. On the other hand, nothing here is actually all that revealing. Yes, Kylo Ren is a character that exists! Yes, he is a big name! Yes, his origin is complicated! And yeah, of course they’re going to do a novel focused on him at some point, whether it’s this specific one or not.

We can’t really pin anything else on this – is Dawson involved? Probably just an innocent victim of a misplaced paste command. Project Luminous? Who knows! But for now, all we can do is keep an eye out. After all, as they say, this is unconfirmed and subject to change.

A screenshot, for my especially suspicious fellows. I have little doubt this all will be back to normal soon:
