It’s that wonderful time of the year when Lucasfilm’s licensees try to give us as much as possible to offer our friends and families to get us for the holidays.
The latest offering from the holiday collection is Star Wars Chronicles: The Prequels, by our friends Stephen J. Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo of Lucasfilm.
At a price tag of $150, this is probably an item for your more generous relatives. But it is certainly a fantastic book.
You might remember, many moons ago, the original Star Wars Chronicles, also written by Stephen J. Sansweet, caused a sensation when it was released in Japan. Fans outside of Japan were doing some insane things to get copies. It was eventually translated back into English and sold outside of Japan to the anxious hordes.
This book is another glorious coffee table tome. It comes in a black slip cover with a silhouette of Darth Vader die-cut into it.
The book itself is chock full of photographs showing detailed images of most of the major characters, ships and trinkets of the Prequel movies. You can examine items from many different angles. And the supporting text also provides some interesting information. Like the original, this book also has these really cool pull out pages that allow you to compare the sizes of characters, ships and props.
There is a little overlap with Dressing a Galaxy. But it does offer more angles on some of the costumes that you just don’t get in the other book.
So how do you decide which one to grovel for? It all depends on what interests you more.
Dressing a Galaxy gets more into the fabrics and construct of the costumes. I think it’s more for the die-hard costumer. Chronicles offers you a lot more reference material and is probably for folks who get more into the props and ships.
Personally? I’m all for groveling for both, as they’re both intriguing looks at the GFFA.
