Gate Geek – The Big Announcement!

GateWorld got the scoop. Here’s the big casting announcement for Stargate Atlantis, Season 5:

Robert Picardo’s Richard Woolsey is joining the cast as a regular; taking over as commander of the expedition. (Oh, I can’t wait for Sheppard to react to that one!)
The Save Carson Beckett Campaign has won a major battle, if not perhaps the war. Paul McGillion will be appearing in five episodes in the upcoming season. Jewel Staite will be a regular, so that gives further mystery to just how Carson Beckett will be coming back.
Of great happiness to SG1 fans: Michael Shanks (Dr. Jackson) will be doing a guest role and, as reported yesterday, Amanda Tapping will still be back for a few episodes.

Let the excitement and speculation begin!

Joy abounds for Buffy fans. Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, has finally confirmed for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast reunion at PaleyFest.

March 20th, 7pm at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. If anyone gets to go, let us know!

What does a Crystal Skull look like? It looks like this. And before that image appeared, Action Figure news showed off this picture of some various artifact merchandise – including the crystal skull. So… what does a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull look like? Wait until May 22, when Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is released – or at least until next week, when the first trailer is revealed.

Meanwhile, IGN’s Obscure Character of the Day is none other than the librarian in Venice from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The Clone Wars are coming!

Check out the packaging for The Clone Wars merchandise. Interesting, no? But the really interesting thing? All that stuff is going to start appearing on shelves July 26. Does that mean we’ll actually be seeing the series soon?

In other thrilling CW news, AICN has now hopped into the story, and they’re reporting that the theatrical release will involve four episodes and be sometime in the spring. The spring? I call shenanigans. Minicons take time!

Out this week

Good news, comic fans – you’re getting a crack at Legacy #19, the final chapter of the ‘Claws of the Dragon’ storyline this Wednesday. And for an added bonus, Rebellion #11 is also on the shipping list.

There’s no sign of the eagerly-awaited Legacy: Shards trade. The trades have been coming out earlier than Dark Horse lists them, but it’s still probably too soon.

Geekier than thou?

Thanks to the Stooge for this one – The Onion’s A.V. Club points out twenty pop-cultural obsessions even geekier than Monty Python. While Star Trek is #1, there’s not much about Star Wars, although there are plenty of entries about things that SW fans do and like, including BSG, Joss Whedon, roleplaying games. (namecheck!) Dr. Who… Plus something I had a lot of high school friends obsessing over for reasons I to this day do not understand, Magic: The Gathering. And for the final blow… Fanfic. Sigh. At least they acknowledge it “isn’t always relegated to weird, unnecessarily erotic original stories with awkward dialogue, plot holes, and spelling errors…” Yeah…

But man, game-show tape trading? That’s just crazy.
