I was asked to create a CJ Youtube account at JadeCon, and I finally got around to it. No uploads yet, but lots of favorites from old posts and such. In the process, I came across this oldie but goodie, the ROTS trailer captioned in hacker-speak.
More video flashbacks are coming… You’ve been warned.
HBO’s A Game of Thrones adaption has announced casting for many of the major roles since we last checked in. But the one making the most waves online since Sean Bean is the news that Lena Headey will play Cersai Lannister, the ambitious wife of King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and a main foil of the series. Headey is plenty familiar to genre fans from her turn as the title character in The Sarah Conner Chronicles and as Queen Gorgo in 300. (Or maybe even 2005’s The Brothers Grimm, as seen at right.) Here’s hoping she can pull it off.
Other familiar faces include Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Prejudice ’95) as Catelyn Stark, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (New Amsterdam, Virtuality) as Cersei’s brother Jaime Lannister, Iain Glen (Kingdom of Heaven) as Ser Jorah Mormont, and Tamzin Merchant (The Tudors) as Daenerys Targaryen. Check out George R. R. Martin’s blog for more on theyoungeractors.
SyFy.Warehouse 13 is setting records for the recently remonikered network; the show’s sixth episode was the most-watched series telecast in the channel’s history. It beat out… Episode five of the same series! Huh. In less hopeful rumors, they’re reportedly considering a cooking show. ‘Imagine greater’ indeed.
It certainly made MSNBC take notice (well, technically Newsarama, but let’s take a wild guess at which version got the most eyeballs) that more women are flocking to geek fandom – or at least the traditional aspects like San Diego Comic Con.
“Hollywood is finally waking up to the fact that girls like a wide variety of things beyond Barbie and Sex and the City,” said actor Mike McMillian, who plays the Rev. Steve Newlin on the HBO television series “True Blood”, a sexed-up vampire show that has proven itself popular with both male and female fans. “The universal success and appeal of ‘Harry Potter’ probably kicked this off in some ways. There are obviously concepts out there that are more appealing to boys than girls, and vice versa, but things don’t always have to be organized into ‘pink’ and ‘blue’ categories.”
McMillian counts himself among the fanboy culture and is writing next year’s comic book series “Lucid” from publisher Archaia. But the actor said he thinks there have always been fangirls — Hollywood just never courted to them before now. “There are legions of women out there who love this stuff, but I think they’ve been largely disregarded up to this point,” he said.
Is it time to step back from thehate and take a look at the bigger picture here? (via)
Jedi gear isn’t too hard to make yourself (or so I’ve heard) but if sewing isn’t a priority, you can probably do worse than looking around Etsy. Here are a few listings the Jawas have scrounged up.
Actually, there are several Jedi robes. My favorite listing is probably Brown Cloak of the Republic, featuring claims of fabric that resists “attacks by the dark side.” ($129.95) But your best bargain may be CustomKids, which will make a child-sized Jedi robe for only $19.99.
And of course, there are the Slave Leias, including an ‘inspired by’ version for bellydancing.
If Amazon is to be believed, today is the ‘official’ release date of Ryder Windham’s A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker. Wednesday brings Invasion #3, featuring the triumphant return of Beefy the Vong! Or something.
Okay. If you saw the trailer online before, nothing much has really changed. But MGM is putting this trailer into theaters, which means they’re really trying to get the hype rolling for the impending October 2nd air date:
Still not enough? Well, writer-producer Joe Mallozzi has all sorts of fun, nifty, behind-the-scenes stuff planned for his blog; including a Q&A with resident geek David Blue. (Get in your questions now.)
And then there’s the press blitz which has kicked off with some exclusive SyFy interviews with David Blue and Lou Diamond Phillips. Ming Na (who is also a major geek; especially for Star Wars) has also indicated that she’s been doing a lot of press.
Yes, for all of you loudly complaining about how you plan on boycotting SGU, you’re just going to have to avoid the media for a while. I’m pretty psyched, though, if I can just stay away from spoilers!
