Del Rey’s Shelly Shapiro chats with Expanded Universe fans
Del Rey editor Shelly Shapiro chatted with fans this afternoon on the Star Wars Books Facebook page. With more than 108 comments, you can’t say it wasn’t popular! Read on for a few high points, including Fate of the Jedi, book formats, typos, continuity, smugglers and more!
On the new edition of Heir to the Empire. We’ve been wondering if the 20th anniversary edition of Heir to the Empire would lead to Dark Force Rising and The Last Command getting a similar treatment. Shapiro said she’d like to do them, but Del Rey will “let the market guide us on that decision.” So if you want annotations for the rest of the Thrawn trilogy, buy Heir in September!
On the upcoming Wraith Squadron novel. Perhaps the biggest tidbit Shapiro dropped us was the time period of Aaron Allston’s 2012 novel. It “takes place around the end” of Fate of the Jedi! Future Rogue or Wraith novels are “Absolutely possible.”

Street date shuffle: Choices, Heir shift again; Revan pushed back to November
Del Rey has tweaked the release schedule again… This time, Zahn’s Choices of One moves back to the original date of July 19th, while the Heir to the Empire anniversary edition moves up slightly to September 6.
Drew Karpyshyn’s The Old Republic: Revan jumps back a month to November 15. Meanwhile, on his blog, Karpyshyn compares game Revan to book Revan.

Hunger Games: First look at Lawrence as Katniss
The cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly features Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss – our first look at the character in the adaption.
There’ll be more (including additional photos) in the actual issue, which will be on the stands come Friday. In the meantime, they’re throwing us a few more crumbs:
In a free-wheeling interview, Lawrence describes her first encounter with Ross last winter, during the height of Oscar season. “He was asking me what the experience was like,” she recalls, “and I just kind of opened up and said, ‘I feel like a rag doll. I have hair and makeup people coming to my house every day and putting me in new, uncomfortable, weird dresses and expensive shoes, and I just shut down and raise my arms up for them to get the dress on, and pout my lips when they need to put the lipstick on.’ And we both started laughing because that’s exactly what it’s like for Katniss in the Capitol. She was a girl who’s all of a sudden being introduced to fame. I know what that feels like to have all this flurry around you and feel like, ‘Oh, no, I don’t belong here.’”
Reaction seems to be fairly positive, at least as far as I’ve seen. What do you think of Lawrence as Kartniss, now that we have an actual visual?
Roundup: Grand opening of Star Tours II approaches
Sick of Star Tours yet? Well, gird yourself for the coming week, because Disney cast members and now the public have been partaking of the ride’s soft opening. (Rebelscum has spoilers, as does Inside the Magic.)
The official grand opening on Friday will be webcast live, and there’s yet another (unofficial) report that George Lucas will attend. Confirmed celebrity attendees for the first weekend are Steve Sansweet, Anthony Daniels, Dave Filoni , Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor and Daniel Logan.
Meanwhile, the Disney Parks blog has a preview of the merchandise.

Out this week: Qui-Gon comic launches
It’s a good week for comic fans, with the debut of Scott Allie’s Jedi: The Dark Side #1 in stores Wednesday. Also shipping this week are two trades: Blood Ties: A Tale of Jango and Boba Fett and the second Old Republic collection, Threat of Peace.
And don’t forget next week brings new Fate of the Jedi!
Gate Geek: Mallozzi responds to SyFy
As reported by GateWorld, Stargate Universe producer Joseph Mallozzi (who is doing a fun review of his favorite Stargate experiences) has a few quibbles with SyFy’s open letter to Stargate fans.
Mostly, it gets down to wanting SyFy to admit the error in judgment in their decision to move SGU to Tuesday’s based on the success of a less competitive summer schedule. Plus, there’s the ongoing discussion about how DVR ratings should affect things that everyone in the industry is trying to figure out; especially around genre shows.
Bottom line, there were business reasons for the show to end. And it’s still sad.
Ready for Hallmark’s 2011 Star Wars ornaments?
It’s May, and as always, Hallmark’s 2011 Dreambook is out. The ornaments were on display at Celebration, but for those of us who weren’t there or somehow completely missed the Hallmark booth, this is the first look.
Come July 16, you can pick up Jedi Master Yoda, Slave I, LEGO Darth Vader and the ever-controversial Showdown at the Cantina, featuring audio from the DVD edition. A fifth ornament, Bossk, will be available during the Keepsake Ornament Premiere.
Other familiar franchises you can deck your trees with this year include Star Trek, Harry Potter, Wizard of Oz, Pirates of the Caribbean, several superheroes and… Twilight.
All these ornaments will be available only in Hallmark stores.
