Wear Star Wars Every Day: Week 33 & more prizes

Great big thanks to our sole GoFundMe donor this week, Dennis, who heard about Wear Star Wars Every Day from my guest appearance on episode 57 of the Coffee with Kenobi podcast (where I also talk about Bloodline and Aftermath: Life Debt). Additionally, Skywalking Through Neverland also had me on their recent podcast to give an update on this fundraising campaign, so big thanks to the fine folks at Coffee with Kenobi and Skywalking Through Neverland for their support in helping me spread the word about Collateral Repair Project and Wear Star Wars Every Day.

And thanks to everyone who has lent me apparel that I’ve worn for week 33 – all seven articles of clothing were lent from supporters: Donna, Anastasia, Paul, Margaret, James & Mark! Remember, every day i keep the streak of wearing a different Star Wars apparel item going, that’s another $4.65 pledged from my donors! This week, we’ve got stuff from the Rebel Legion at Celebration VI, shirts from Japan and Malaysia, and a throwback to one of the first Star Wars museum exhibitions. This review for Week 33 covers August 12 to August 18 of my wearathon, and an update on fundraising for Collateral Repair Project, a non-profit organization that provides emergency assistance, education, and community support to urban refugees.

This week in Rogue One: Empire covers, social buzz

→ Empire Magazine has revealed their first Rogue One covers – one featuring the heroes, the other the villains. A subscriber cover will debut Monday. Expect bits from their cover story to dribble out through the next few days – the issue will be on sale August 25.

→ Will Rogue One be Star Wars’ big breakthrough in China? Well… Maybe? Reaction to the trailer was mixed.

→ On the other hand, the film is holding its own in social buzz. Rogue One also debuted on Tumblr’s Fandomentrics movie list for the first time, at a respectable #5.

EUbits: First Ahsoka review, checking in with J.W. Rinzler and the Making of TFA

ahsoka-book2-cropThe first review of E.K. Johnston’s Ahsoka has appeared on Kirkus. It’s short, but there do appear to be some minor spoilers. Still, they say it “a great treat for young—and not-so-young—Star Wars fans that provides a thrilling back story for a compelling character.” The book is due out October 11.

→ Checking in with The Making of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Co-author J.W. Rinzler was on a podcast recently, and long story short, it’s still a big question point.

→ Star Wars Reads is back for 2016. The generally kid-centric event is “a month-long campaign” set for October.

John Williams to start work on Episode VIII soon? Not so much….

It seems that John Williams didn’t tell a Boston crowd that he was beginning work soon on Episode VIII, as earlier reports have claimed. Star Wars News Net has a video of his remarks regarding VIII, and he only mentions signing on and seeing a rough cut of the film “in a few weeks.” The conspiracy theorists can stand down – per usual, actual scoring is generally one of the last things to be done on a film.
