LOLtastic Quote of the Day

“The man who played Anakin Beefstroker was actually better than Hayden Christensen.” – Stephen Colbert, while discussing the (fake) porno Sperm Wars II: Attack of the Bones on his show.

45 degrees!

Lucasfilm let hoards of rotation-prone graphic design majors into their packaging design department!

I kid, I kid. The new packaging design is a complete 180 from the retro look they’ve been sporting for the last few years, though.

I like it. If only they’d get a few of those folks to give the Insider a bit of a once-over…

In related news, Hasbro’s Star Wars profits are down.

Some Sith records still safe

Paul Ens reports that at least one of Revenge of the Sith’s box office records has survived Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. It still has the best five-day opening, and looks be be safe in a few other categories.

Stormtroopers love Anne McCaffrey

Sci-fi.com has video from this year’s 2006 Science Fiction Hall of Fame inductions. Watch Rob Coleman’s acceptance speech for George Lucas and speeches from the other inductees, including Anne McCaffrey. Plus Neil Gaiman! Greg Bear! Kevin J. Anderson! (Erm…)

A Jedi craves not these things

Speaking of rumors… Kevin Smith addresses last year’s gossip of his involvement with the Star Wars TV show.

Was there ever any truth to the your involvement with a Star Wars TV show?

“No, no,” Smith says with a chuckle. “Which was so strange, because I was like, ‘Really? I wish somebody had told me.’ People kept saying, ‘Dude, you gonna be doing that?'”

Rumor-mongering: O RLY?

T’bone has heard a rumor that ILM may be outsourced to India. Grain of salt. Big heaping grains of salt.

ETA: Check the comments for some more looking into the issue.

ETA2: From the inside: Pablo calls bullshit.

Keep your mullet to yourself

The Art Department is a new blog by Irene Gallo, art director at sci-fi publisher Tor. Her first post is fantastic, much needed advice for cover artist wannabes. I only wish the photos were bigger, or at least links.

They’re all gonna laugh at you!

CNBC reported yesterday that Pirates of the Caribbean beat Aquaman’s box office record.

Pirates did smash records, but James Cameron’s Aquaman – and its killer box office – only exist as a plot point on HBO’s Entourage. The cable network did take out an ad in Variety last month touting the fictional milestone, which no doubt prompted the mistake.

ETA: Or not. The anchor was joking.

Hasbro Fan’s Choice

Quinlan Vos was the official winner, but since he already has a figure planned for 2007, Darth Revan from Knights of the Old Republic will be immortalized in plastic.
