  1. Wow, Spoilers below!

I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY KILLED WASH! Goram!

This film is fantastic! We saw it as a family at a 9:40 pm showing. Many browncoats were there with us. They laughed and gasped at all the right places.

Will need to decompress some more before I can comment further.

  2. *cries*

I can’t believe they killed him…. well, both of them. GAH.

Stunning, otherwise, but am to shocked.

  3. I’m not sure I love the movie. There are parts I like, such as the discovery of how the Reavers came to be, but as a whole I’m not sure. Wash was my favorite character, so I’m pretty upset about his death. Most of the characters felt off, especially Jayne. It was like coming back to your old hometown after a couple years have passed and seeing how much has changed. It no longer feels like you belong.

The theater here was only 1/4 full for a 7:45pm showing, with one screen only. Didn’t see any other fans, unfortunately. :(

  4. We went to the four twenty showing here. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see the theatre mostly full for that showing. It wasn’t a full house, but I’d say 3/4 of the theatre seats were taken and there were a number of fans there. Plus, a whole lot more outside the door for the next showing!

As I’d seen an advanced screening, I knew what to expect in many places, but it’s been much polished. And I think I actually cried more this time around.

    *mourns Wash*

  5. Oh, I LOVED this movie! Yes, the characters felt off, but they were supposed to be off. They’re all lost and trying to find their way back. And they totally did at the end.

    BIG DAMNED HEROES!

The theater was packed. And the audience totally went along for the ride. There was laughter and gasps and giggles. (And cheering when IT finally happened.)

And I was bawling at the level of Episode 3. Only the second movie of this year to really get me to that point. I’m devestated. I am truly devestated.

Really glad I didn’t make it into a preview, now. It was totally worth the wait!

  6. Glad to hear some of you had full theatres. We maybe had 20 people in the 7:20pm showing yesterday.

Killing Wash off was… traumatic. But then Jos does have a habit of killing off folks.

Simon’s accent seemed a little more American than in the series, and the Kaylee/Simon thing grated on me. Sure, the confession was good in its place but I felt the sex scene wasn’t needed and having River watch? Ugh, not comfortable. Thankfully, that was brief and not explicit.

Not sure if I’ll go see it again, even though I did miss one scene due to having to make an emergency bathroom break (I’d been ill most of the day)

  7. Oooh, I LOVED it. The Reavers were awesome, Mr. Universe was awesome, I thought all the characters were great (except Book was a little off somehow, or maybe I just like the ass-kicking Book more than the talkity Book) and damn, I’m afraid of the inside of River’s head.

  8. There are MAJOR spoilers in this. You have been warned.

We had maybe about 20 people in our theater today. Then again, this was a beautiful, gorgeous Saturday afternoon, so a lot of people might not have wanted to go to the theater. I think I will go back next weekend to see how many other people come back.

Of those 20 people, though, I think pretty much everybody were Firefly fans. I know at least two people cried when Wash was killed (my mom and some other guy).

The thing that’s standing out to me right now (yes, I’m still somewhat incoherent, since my mind keeps returning to Wash) is Mal and Zoe’s relationship. This is something that I think only those who have seen Firefly in its entirety can appreciate. During the war, we saw Mal being the rock upon which the others could lean and be supported. After the war, Zoe became Mal’s rock. But after the events of this movie, it seems that Mal might be returning to being the rock. I love that scene where he and Zoe are talking about “Serenity’s” status.

And am I mistaken, or was Zoe wearing her Serenity Valley battle gear during that final battle?

The dinosaurs at the end were a beautiful touch. I hope they stay there always.

I’d kind of always wondered if the Alliance had something to do with the Reavers. I had thought, though, that they had created the Reavers to serve as a threat to help hold the Alliance together. I guess I was only half right.

The one thing that annoyed me about this movie was the whole Mr. Universe thing. His whole character and what he represented seemed to me to be contrived to serve solely as a plot point. We’d never heard of him before, and all of a sudden they call him up and chat with him like he was an old friend. Simply so they could establish that there was this massive communication thing that could be used to get out the signal.

    Otherwise, excellent movie.

  9. WASH!!!! Waaaaaaaah!

I need to see it again to come up with anything more coherent. I will say that I can’t see myself getting immersed in this universe. It’s definitely not escapism. Watching this film was like getting kicked in the stomach. It was a great movie — but I don’t think I’d say I “enjoyed” it. It was rough.

  10. Waaaassssh! Waaaah!

I really enjoyed the intensity of the movie. I wasn’t all that happy at the beginning — it felt like I was sitting through a fair bit of “establishing the characters” for newbies. But once it got going, well, it was shiny.

Even if it did rip my heart out.

  11. Three days since I saw it and I still can’t talk coherently about it. I need to go again. Although I don’t know if I can stand seeing Wash impaled again.

  12. I found this movie to be awsome. Although the character development seemed alittle forced i found it intresting to see another side of Simon and River. Capt Reynolds lived up to all my expectations, funny yet still fully incharge. Can’t wait to see it again. As for Wash he will alawys live on for he is a leaf on the wind watch him Soar, and Soar he does
