New Star Tours addition keeps things in the Disney family

The surprise new stop on Star Tours has been revealed, and it’s Batuu. The new planet will serve as the setting for the upcoming Star Wars land, Galaxy’s Edge, that will debut in 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and Disneyland in California.

But visitors to the U.S. parks can get a look at the planet now on Star Tours. For the rest of us, here’s the brand-new databank entry:

A remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge, Batuu was once a busy crossroads in the days prior to lightspeed. With the rise of hyperspace travel, however, the world — notable for the lush trees and mountain spikes that decorate its surface — was left behind, its prominence lost to planets on more popular trade routes. Today, Batuu is home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, and a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders, and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. Significantly, it has also become a safe haven for those looking to avoid the attention of the First Order.

There’s also the scale model of the park that debuted at D23 a few months back:

Also debuting on Star Tours today is The Last Jedi planet of Crait. Per fan reports, there are also two new opening sequences with Kylo Ren and the First Order, plus mid-ride transmissions from Maz Kanata and Poe Dameron.

Crait and the other The Last Jedi additions are expected to be in rotation on the overseas Star Tours rides by the end of the year; No word if Batuu will be shown at parks not getting the expansion.

And finally, here’s one for the prononciation nerds:
