John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson and Allen Hall of ILM won the Visual Effects Oscar tonight for their work on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest! Long overdue!
Later: Best Director presenter babble with Lucas, Coppola and Spielberg about George’s lack of Oscars. Oh, George, we love you anyway. And Scorsese wins! Standing ovation!
Later still: The Departed takes Best Picture. (I swear, I didn’t mean to semi-live blog.) Here’s your list of the major winners. And did you notice Carrie Fisher in the writing credits?
I think John Knoll gets the One-Liner Of The Night award for his comment about how people told them four blind boys from the Bronx could never win Best Visual Effects. LMAO!
I missed the show, but before they even announced that Scorsese won on the news this morning, I knew he’d gotten it because of who was on stage to present. Hooray!
And George not having an Oscar? Well, that bridge kinda got burned. But he’s still been honored by The Academy. And who else can really say they have as many admirers?
