The first Star Wars land opened this week in California. Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland only has one ride running, but that didn’t seem to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. (Though at least one review did mention it. More reviews: StarWars.com, EW, /Film, Polygon and Hypable.)
But maybe the neatest was seeing the reaction of some of the first fans allowed into the land:
→ The grand opening on Wednesday featured Disney CEO Bob Iger, George Lucas, Billy Dee Williams, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, who payed tribute to the late Peter Mayhew.
→ An interesting question: Is the park too ambitious for the audience?
→ A review of the Falcon ride (which might change, in time) and an account of building a lightsaber.
→ A look at ride vfx, including the not-yet-open Rise of the Resistance ride.
→ Reviews of the drinks at Oga’s Cantina and the food at Docking Bay 7 – but honestly I’m just really into the GFFA spork here.
→ Some easter eggs to keep an eye out for.
→ And finally, you nerds: But is it canon?
→ Also: Vi Moradi! | Fans are kitbashing their “datapads” | Celebrity take: Ben Schwartz and Bobby Moynihan | What does Jack Sparrow have to do with GE? | Yes, the LAT did a bathroom tour and it’s delightful.
The park at Disneyland will be open to those without a reservation beginning on June 24; The Florida version will open in August.
