Paramount Digital Entertainment, which is responsible for the site, will be shut down at the end of the year, leaving the official Star Trek site in limbo. (via Fanthropology.)
Rumor: Serenity sequel?
Whedon’s people deny it, but IGN is claiming that Universal has given the go-ahead for low-budget sequel to Serenity. The film would be broadcast on the Sci-Fi Channel or possibly go straight to DVD.
And while we’re on the subject, Serenity hand puppet theatre.
Cooking for Geeks
Because I can’t stop laughing, I must share this description I found of Alton Brown:
I first became aware of Good Eats a few years ago when I was clicking through the channels and came upon his show. The only reason I paused to watch it was because I thought Alton Brown looked like Luke Skywalker. And honestly, who wouldn’t watch a cooking show by Luke Skywalker? Except maybe those damn Sand People.
So long and thanks for all the wigs
This will be the last season for Alias. I’m totally shocked. Not.
He.. uh… talks to fish.
Well, it’s official – the producers of anvil-laden Smallville are now turning their sights on Aquaman – they’ve signed on for a put pilot commitment. My condolences to all Aquaman fans.
Actors, writers want placement cash
Hollywood writers and actors want a code of conduct for ‘hidden’ advertising on TV shows and films such as Star Wars being a main focus of last week’s ‘Apprentice’.
Translated from the tl;dr
Joss Whedon is writing a Buffy comic that continues the story post-‘Chosen.’
Lost’s first tie-in novel
The book will be the product of Gary Troup, a passenger of Oceanic Flight 815 who didn’t survive the crash, but mailed off his book to ABC’s sister company Hyperion Books just days before the flight. The character (via, we assume, a copy of his manuscript or other belongings) will be written into the on-screen story this spring. The real author will be an unnamed “well-known” mystery writer.
“There will be sex and swearing” on Doctor Who spin-off
Hooray!
The BBC confirms there will be a Dr Who spin-off aimed at an adult audience. “Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who) will feature Captain Jack.
IMDB says:
An adult spin-off of Doctor Who which contains sex and bad language is set to shock fans of the classic family TV show… Torchwood is to be written by Doctor Who scriptwriter Russell T. Davies and will star that program’s John Barrowman.
It follows a team investigating crime and alien activities in contemporary Britain. Davies says, “Torchwood will be a dark, clever, wild, sexy, British crime/sci-fi paranoid thriller cop show with a sense of humor.”
BBC3 boss Stuart Murphy adds, “The people have affairs with one another. There will be sex and swearing, I assume. I’m quite relaxed about that.”
I will not be an enabler!
Not so, I lie!
Comic Continuum has pictures of James Marsters from Smallville’s next (October 20th) episode. They also have a description of the October 27th episode, which has Carrie Fisher guest starring as the editor of The Daily Planet.
(I’ve heard Smallville is really, really awful this year, but what else is new? It can’t be any worse than The O.C., right? Please, someone tell me I’m right.)
In other SW guest star news, Comic Continuum also reported that Mark Hamill will be voicing the Trickster on an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network’s Justice League Unlimited. Hamill infamously played the Trickster in the short lived live-action Flash TV show starring Dawson’s dad, and (of course) voiced the Joker for Batman: The Animated Series. I’d link pictures, but you’re probably off just renting Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back for your Hamill-in-spandex fix.
