Some Regal Entertainment Group theaters in the U.S. will be offering free screenings of The Clone Wars as part of their Free Family Film Festival. Check their site for locations, dates and times. (via)
EUbits: Weaver, Chee, Wallace and TCW
- Toys: Rebelscum has pictures of Hasbro’s evolution of the Sith set, including shirtless Maul, Darth Nihilus, and the please-someone-get-him-a-tissue Darth Bane, right.
- The blogside: Artist Dustin Weaver writes a bit about his cover for Dark Times #16.
- Interviews: French site Star Wars Universe interviews Lucasfilm continuity guru Leland Chee, while NJOE has Essential Atlas author Dan Wallace.
- The Clone Wars: There’s going to be another video game, Republic Heroes. I’m shocked! Well, not that shocked.
EUbits: The Clone Wars art book, Essential Atlas skips back again, Bohnhoff on Dash
First look: StarWars.com gives us a peek at The Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I continue to wince at the appropriation of McQuarrie art in the name of designs based on those awful puppets. (Not that people were exactly Ralph’s greatest either, but if one must choose…) Your mileage may vary, but this is probably one Art of I’ll be sitting out for.
- Street date shuffle: The Essential Atlas has been moved back to August 18. Only a month this time!
- The blogside. Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff considers Dash Rendar in her latest Padawan’s Journal.
- Interviews: EUC is taking questions for their interview with Invasion’s Colin Wilson and Tom Taylor.
Hallmark’s Star Wars ornaments for 2009
It’s May, so of course the Dream Book is out, because nothing says spring like planning out your Christmas tree. This year’s Star Wars selections are include The Phantom Menace duel (above,) Han in Stormtrooper gear, Luke’s landspeeder, and a Clone Wars twofer of Anakin and Ahsoka.
Also of interest: Indiana Jones, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Ghostbusters and my personal grinchy favorite, the Wicked Witch of the West.
(Thanks, Rach!)
The Clone Wars gets decoded tonight
Don’t forget (like I did) that The Clone Wars rerun tonight will be accessorized with handy bits of info that you may or may not already know. In other relevant news, Spanish-language episodes are streaming on the site now.
New comic day brings comic previews
I just got back from the comic store and just realized that I forgot to pick up Star Wars Adventures. Curses! I guess that’s half the excuse I need to go back for Free Comic Book Day.
But my real point here is that Dark Horse has come through with three – count ’em – three previews: Legacy #36, Knights of the Old Republic #41, and The Clone Wars #6.
And for the Brits, here’s a peek at The Clone Wars UK Comic #5.7.
The fandom minute: Morning crank edition
It’s art! Or not. No. Just no. Clone Wars character design, I know McQuarrie, and you sir are no McQuarrie. On the other hand, Christian Waggoner’s stuff is kinda cool.
Let them eat slime. This Jabba cake is appropriately disgusting yet totally hand-made. Pretty impressive.
Don’t strain yourself. Is Star Wars science fiction or fantasy? It’s sci-fantasy. Duh.
Listicles. Princess Leia is one of Yahoo’s lethal ladies; The prequels bottom out io9’s list of science fiction prequels, beating out even You-Know-Who’s Dune books on their scale of crappiness. Ouch.
Road trip! If you missed it, The Vader Project is now in Pittsburgh.
Looking ahead at The Clone Wars with Dave Filoni and Ashley Eckstein
Two recent interviews with director Dave Filoni and voice actress Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka) hint at the second season of The Clone Wars. Filoni mostly talks about S1, of course, but there is a bit near the end about S2. And Eckstein says that Ahsoka will become “more and more like Anakin every day.”
More on Free Comic Book Day’s Star Wars offering
As announced last December, Dark Horse Comics is releasing Star Wars comics as part of their annual freebie book for Free Comic Book Day, which is on Saturday, May 2, 2009. A preview of the book is up – and it contains a Kit Fisto story, ‘The Gauntlet of Death‘. The free 28 page comic will also contain stories of Emily the Strange, Usagi Yojimbo and other Dark Horse properties suitable for all ages, and has a flip cover. Dark Horse also had a second freebie book for 2009, with a flip cover, helping to relaunch their Aliens and Predator comic tie-in series – check out the preview.
Musical Journey, other event updates
So I was checking out the Google News Search yesterday, as one does, and what should appear but – lo! – A Musical Journey, which starts tonight! And so, the BBC has a tour of the companion exhibition.
As for other upcoming events of note, StarWars.com has the Star Wars Weekends 2009 guest list (Heavy on The Clone Wars; Jay Laga’aia and Ashley Eckstein share hosting duties.) and a video of Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter going up in Indianapolis for The Clone Wars exhibit.
