And now there’s Star Wars ice cream

sw-ice-cream

With the collaboration of Lucasfilm and Disney, Brooklyn’ Ample Hills Creamery has created two limited edition Star Wars ice cream (frozen custard?) flavors. Per Entertainment Weekly, the flavors are:

The Dark Side (ultra-dark chocolate ice cream with espresso fudge brownies, cocoa crispies, and white chocolate pearls) and The Light Side (bright marshmallow ice cream with homemade crispie clusters, as well as a smattering of handmade cocoa crispies).

They can be ordered online and come in four-packs with collectible containers.

The Force Awakens’ will feature music from J.J. Abrams and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda

abrams-fallon

The big news out of J.J. Abrams’ appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon was that he collaborated with Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda on the music for The Force Awakens’ Cantina equivalent. (Maz Kanata’s place, no doubt.)

Hamilton probably needs no introduction (but here’s one from PBS,) since it’s the rare Broadway show that the internet can’t shut up about. You can listen to the original cast recording on Spotify.

Miranda confirmed, in case anyone doubts Abrams:

Today in The Force Awakens: Gwendoline Christie models a Phasma dress, J.J. Abrams makes the rounds

phasma-dress1Gwendoline Christie herself models the Giles Deacon dress inspired by Captain Phasma.

→ No one got too much out of J.J. Abrams today, but he showed up on Good Morning America, Howard Stern and shared some interesting tidbits about Adam Driver and General Leia on Sirius XM.

→ Steven Spielberg thinks The Force Awakens could be “the biggest movie ever.”

→ Retailers aren’t stocking enough Rey (or Phasma) merchandise. Imagine that.

Star Wars out this week: Short stories, Star Wars #13

crimson-crop

The Journey to The Force Awakens continues today with the release of the four Tales from a Galaxy Far, Far Away: Aliens eBook short stories from Landry Q. Walker: ‘The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku’, ‘High Noon on Jakku’, ‘The Face of Evil’ and ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. These are only in ebook format for now, but a print anthology (with two additional stories) will be coming from Disney Lucasfilm Press in the spring.

Meanwhile, for those looking to avoid anything that may touch on The Force Awakens for the time being, there’s also Star Wars #13 on Wednesday.

A fifth short story, ‘The Perfect Weapon’, came out last week. Although we’ll certainly be getting comics throughout the rest of the month, this leaves us with no prose releases until the floodgates open on December 18.

The Force Awakens stars on talk shows this week

J.J. Abrams on The Tavis Smiley ShowIt’s going to be a busy week for our DVRs. Good Morning America will have J.J. Abrams on Monday, Harrison Ford on Tuesday, and John Boyega and Daisy Ridley on Wednesday. Carrie Fisher will be on Live with Michael and Kelly on Thursday.

Abrams and Ford will also be on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday and Tuesday. Then, Lupita Nyong’o will be on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Wednesday, while Fallon will host Adam Driver. Daisy Ridley will be on Fallon Thursday night.

The Force Awakens roundup: Speculating on the Rey-Kylo connection

kylo-finn-reyI don’t generally link to speculation, but ComicBook’s Lucas Siegel has an interesting theory on Rey and Kylo Ren. I buy them as siblings, but I don’t like the theory that the two are actual twins. Just look at the actors – the age difference between Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver is far too obvious. But Siegel’s theory is more about the idea of their roles mirroring each other. (Look at the costuming if nothing else.) Even if he does bring up The Clone Wars’ bizarro Mortis arc.

Empire is out in the U.K. (I’m not sure about the U.S., given that I’m avoiding retailers like the plague at the moment) and there are a few new bits bits of information that didn’t (shocker) make Empire’s own perfunctory online coverage, including that Snoke was “was critical in the seduction of [Kylo?] Ren to the dark side.” Fair warning that this is via Star Wars News Net, aka the former Star Wars 7 News, but it’s almost all quotes with little interpretation. (Avoid the comments, though.)

→ A new Disney Channel featurette that focuses on Rey, as well as giving us a few glimpses of new scenes.

→ Afraid of spoilers? There’s a Chrome extension that can help you. Good luck with that. (Here’s the closest thing I have to a spoiler policy.)

The Force Awakens soundtrack track names revealed

tfa-soundtrackThe track listing for The Force Awakens soundtrack was up on French Amazon last night. It’s no longer there this morning, but I did see it there… It had some weird capitalization choices, so I am a bit wary of it, but there are no real red flags of fakeness in it, and we’re close enough to release that chances are Amazon was actually accurate.

I’ve black-barred the Making Star Wars version (they fixed the capitalization issues – ComicBook has the original) below. There are possible spoilers here, though nothing on the level of ‘Qui-Gon’s Noble End.’
