Report: The Americans’ Stephen Schiff to run Cassian show

Deadline is reporting that Lucasfilm is bringing on Stephen Schiff as showrunner for the Rogue One prequel series that will star Diego Luna as Rebel spy Cassian Andor. They also say that the production has hired writers. The show is expected to begin production next year.

Schiff was an executive producer of The Americans, the FX spy drama that co-starred Episode IX’s Keri Russell. He also wrote 9 episodes of the series.

The Cassian show is the second live-action Star Wars series announced for the streaming service Disney+. The first, Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, is currently in production.

Torra is onto Kaz in Resistance’s ‘Secrets and Holograms’

Shockingly, someone actually gets suspicious of Kaz in this Sunday’s “Secrets and Holograms.” Also, some garbage!

When a determined Kaz tries to discover the truth about Captain Doza, he and Torra embark on an adventure where they uncover more about the Tower than either bargained for.

Kid-centric Galaxy of Adventures shorts are on the way

Another series of Star Wars animated shorts is debuting on Friday. Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures “will introduce the classic themes, pivotal moments, and iconic characters from the Star Wars saga to the next generation.”

More shorts are coming in December and throughout 2019 leading up to Episode IX.

Like Forces of Destiny, we’re not exactly the target audience here – they’re aimed at “providing a kid-friendly entry point” to the saga. (Although it does give parents another way to introduce the saga to their kids!)

They’ll have a dedicated website, StarWarsKids.com, and their own Youtube channel. A new Hasbro line debuts at Walmart on December 1, and nationwide in January.

It’s race time (again) on Star Wars Resistance

We meet a famous racer with a connection to Yeager in “The Platform Classic,” Sunday’s new episode of Star Wars Resistance.

Kaz uses the upcoming “Platform Classic” to reunite Yeager with someone from his past, Marcus – who happens to be in deep with the Guavian Death Gang. After Marcus’ mechanic is kidnapped, Kaz assists him in preparing for the race, learning more about Yeager in the process.

The pirates are back on Resistance in ‘Synara’s Score’

In “Synara’s Score”, the next episode of Star Wars Resistance, the pirates are back and we learn a little more about Tam in our preview clip.

Doza enlists Yeager’s team to assist in the repair of a vital Platform defense. Tam and Kaz befriend Synara, a mysterious new resident of the Platform, while the pirates plot another attack.

What to expect from Star Wars and Disney+

Now that the streaming service has a name, the marketing for Disney+ has really begun… Along with some inklings of how it will work.

Per Vulture’s Josef Adalian, Star Wars will be one of the “five central content hubs” for the service (along with classic Disney, Marvel, Pixar and National Geographic) so there won’t be much need for Netflix-style scrolling.

We also know that they’re aiming for the monthly price to be less than Netflix (cheapest plan: $7.99). Disney’s ESPN+ streaming service, which launched earlier this year, currently charges $4.99 a month. So I suspect we’ll be looking at something that’ll run fans $5-7 a month. (And maybe even some savings if bundled with an ESPN+ or Hulu subscription?)

But! The content. What’s coming for Star Wars? Here’s what we know for sure, some speculation about what else may be in play, and what we definitely won’t see.

Cassian Andor series coming to Disney’s streaming service (which now has a name)

A second Star Wars live action series is coming to the newly-named streaming service Disney+ – and it will star a familiar character, Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor from Rogue One.

The series, which will go into production next year, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The “rousing spy thriller” doesn’t have a release date yet – just like The Mandalorian. Disney+ is expected to launch next year. A website for the service is now live, where fans can sign up to receive updates.
